I have enjoyed the Gatlinburg thread and am now trying to decide betweent here and Ashville. We hare DVC members but need to so lower budget trip this year due to failed adoption. Does anyone have any pointers or places of interest.............we have a 6 yo dd.

We live 90 miles from Asheville & love going to Biltmore Estate. It's an absolutely amazing place to visit. Here's a website for it -

Downtown Asheville has a nicely restored area with lots of interesting shops to explore. No cost to do that unless you find something you want to buy, There are often festivals & free concerts going on in that area during the summer. Here's another website that might help you -

If you choose Asheville you might want to check out the Grovepark Inn. The rooms start at about $300 a night but there are much cheaper options all around and it is a fabulous place to visit and check out. It has several dining rooms but we love the one that overlooks the mountains. The prices are reasonable as well. There is also a car museum and a couple of other things to see there.

Thanks....I have looked at it...............we are DVC members.........and we can use our points there which is great..............I want to know more about that bear Christmas party..it looks so cute!!

Downtown Asheville has a great health museum for kids--the complex is called Pack Place, and my DD loved it when she was 6 and 7. I don't remember the cost--not too high, and it seemed there was a AAA discount.

The Grove Park is stunning--there is also an indoor swimming pool and lots of cool areas to explore--we spent one afternoon searching out the nooks and crannies. We were in the old part of the hotel where the elevator is one of those old fashioned kind with the bars, and an elevator operator. It is actually in the stone chimney--which is huge. Large lobby and chairs outfront for sitting and rocking. If you do go, I would recommend valet parking--the self parking lot is straight uphill to the hotel--quite a walk.
