That is such a funny clip. I would like to know why she didn't just go with it instead of turning around and prancing about like an idiot. Nobody would have ever known that wasn't the song she was supposed to be singing. Also how can she blame the band. Wouldn't that be the fault of the person in charge of sound for playing the wrong track?

Just curious to know how copyright laws would prohibit someone from really singing a song. It's being played either way whether they truly sing it or lip synch it. And don't most country artist truly sing.

Can someone please explain from the beginning what happened.

I saw Ashley sing "Pieces" and I said to my husband, I didn't know the lip-sync on SNL. You could telll because the song was exactally like it is played on her CD. I kept laughing how she kept strutting back and forth while singing. Usually singers and their band, put small changes to their songs when they are on SNL.

When she was suppose to sing again are you saying "Pieces" started to play again? I can't get the clip to play on my computer. Sorry.

Doesn't anyone remember Band Stand, that was all lip-syncing.

That's correct. The song she'd sung earlier started playing again. I don't know about the band though. What were they playing?

Can't decide what's worse. The lip synching or the dancing.
I missed this part of the show, but saw her at the end apologizing for her band. I wondered what happened. Thanks for the clip!
She has no talent anyway, and I'm inclined to agree with other posters who says Jessica doesn't either. Maybe the radio stations will quit playing her music now. I, too, am tired of hearing her songs every 5 minutes.

this is their explanation, I really don't buy it. I think she was lipsyncing the whole time, you can tell if you saw the earlier performance also. They qued up the wrong lip sync track and thats why she could not roll with the difference:

Viewers watching NBC's "Saturday Night Live" were treated to an unusual blunder this weekend when musical guest Ashlee Simpson (news) began the wrong song. Realizing that something was amiss, the pop star danced a little jig and walked off the stage.


Simpson's band apparently cued up the wrong support track on her second song of the night, which they rehearsed Friday night. Good-spirited band members grinned widely and kept playing for several minutes sans Simpson.


At the end of show, guest host Jude Law -- with Simpson standing at his side -- explained that this was real, live television.


And, right on cue this time, Simpson offered her apologies. She also explained that she just danced a hoe-down as a reaction

Maybe she can't sing very well unless she has it "enhanced" in a record studio, so she decided to fake it on SNL.
It was pretty sad to see her voice coming out, but her mouth not moving. What a faker.
My teenage son got a big laugh out of it though.

Maybe someone like the band was pissed she wasn't doing the gig live and tried to embarass her?
It is supposed to be an honor to do SNL. To ask the band to "fake it" could be grounds for retaliation, maybe?

But-as others have said-I always thought most of those performances were lip-synched anyway.

I bet from now on, SNL with have a tape of the earlier tapings performance on standby just in case something like this happens again.

Must have really messed up their timings and made a lot of people scramble. I can imagine all theyelling that took place in the control room.

I went back and watched it again. It appears as though the band started playing a different song. I'm not familiar with her other song, so I didn't recognize the music. Then the voice track for "Pieces of Me" started playing. So the band tried to "cover" and started playing that song. I don't think her band intentionally played the wrong song, as she claimed.

I never cared for this girls singing nor her sister... Now her BIL... I like his singing.

I don't like Ashlee or Jessica either but Nick has a great voice.

When I worked on a late night show a few years ago they had many musical acts including Jessica Simpson and N'sync on the show. They sang live. No one ever lipsynched. I am sure there are backing tracks of choruses or what have you I won't pretend I know everything about music. There would be music rehersals the day of the taping. There were many flubs and sometimes they would retape the music part after the show was taped if it went badly. It's sad that she had a week of rehersal and couldn't sing two songs live. I wouldn't pay money to see someone lip sync. I could buy the album and close my eyes. When people don't sing thier own songs live it makes me think they couldn't and probably didn't sing them in the first place.

Maybe it's just me, but I kinda feel bad for her. I mean, let's face it - her career, at least singing-wise is over. She'll have to face inevitable comparisons to her sister and Jessica's infintely superior voice (although I agree with some previous posters that she just doesn't use the voice quite right - too many fluctuations or something).

That being said, the younger Simpson obviously blew it. I'm sure she was incredibly nervous singing live, but if you can't sing live on Saturday Night Live, maybe you shouldn't be on the show.

However, I would disagree with a poster who said her parents pushed her into this to make money. Ashlee had a budding acting career and I don't think her parents would've pushed her into this if she didn't want to do it.

That being said, though I feel bad for her, she really blew it. Whether you liked her music or not (I fall into the "or not" category), you probably won't be hearing much more of it.

In a strange way, this may help her career. Any publicity is good publicity. Won't we all be watching the next time she sings live. We will be watching a train wreck.

BUSTED!!! Just another Britney. I would be really pissed if I spent all kinds of $$ on a concert ticket and then have to watch them lip sync. Lack of talent, I suppose.
