Anyone ever think about having their ashes spread somewhere in WDW? I was thinking of having mine spread (when I'm dead of course) in the water between the Hub and Tomorrowland at MK.

Does anyone know if Disney allows this?

i told my dh and kids to put my eyes in the grass looking towards the castle
think they would mind??

No, they do not allow it.

(But I have read about many who have their relatives or friends sprinkle a small amount, without telling anyone at Disney about it.)

I am sure that there are more than a few folks scattered at the WDW resort. Who's to stop my honey, if she were to take me out for a walk at FW and scatter me around?!?! I see nothing wrong with it. Maggie

I already told my DH that I would take his ashes to the 7 seas lagoon. I'm sure Disney frowns on this but putting it someplace like a body of water seems harmless to me. Now if I were to spread his ashes while riding space mountain....that might upset a few people:rotfl2:

Hey, what's a little more DUST at the Haunted Mansion?

Here's your 1000th resident, Ghost Host!

Have I said too much?

Uh-Oh!

Actually, I did hear a story about someone doing that (at DL though, not WDW), at the height of the anthrax scares no less. Of course, the CMs just saw someone on the ride sprinkling some sort of powdery looking substance throughout the ride. Apparently they took that rider aside at the end of the ride to find out what was going on and ended up having to close the ride for the rest of the day to clear out whatever he had scattered. Not sure how true it is, but hey, I read it on the internet, it must be right! :rotfl2:

It's not allowed, so I have actually written in my final instructions that I'm to be separated into a few different baggies so DH and DS can do a sprinkle here and a sprinkle there.

I told them to put me in a discreet place because I don't want to be swept up immediately by WDW's crack janitorial crew.

That is exactly what I thought about when I read this. I could see someone very lovingly and reverently tossing out the ashes and a CM come along right behind with one of those huge street cleaning vacuums!!!

My friends keep saying they are going to take a little of me every 6 months and sprinkle me here and there throughout the whole World.

I thnk they are just using me as a cheesy excuse for a avaction. ;)

On a serious note...in order to be discreet, I think you would need much more than a "few" baggies. Typical adults result in 6-8 pounds of cremains. Let's say you wanted to use snack-size ziplocs (a fairly discreet size), I would imagine you might need 15-20 bags (or maybe more).

Hope that helps in your planning!:thumbsup2

I just learned something... :) (and who said that time on message boards is time wasted?)

Discrete and Discreet are two different words with two different meanings.

Discreet means unobtrusive.
Discrete means distinct/separate.

Hmmm...

15-20 baggies you say, no problem, that would just mean I could finally ride most rides at the same time. Again, and again and.....now that is a touring plan.

I do know someone who sprinkled her fathers ashes in the lake out side MK. He and his wife LOVED WDW and on their last family trip they rented a boat and said good bye to the man they loved.

I am so happy I am not the only who has thought of this. I have told family members that I want my ashes scattered at Disney and they all thought I was morbid and said there was no way they would do it. 7 Seas Lagoon seems like a much easier option. Maybe I'll ask them how they feel about that! :goodvibes

Be careful, it is illegal to scatter ashes in FL, other than 3 miles off shore.
I was told that by a funeral director.
Anybody here who can confirm that?

I personally don't see anything wrong with scattering on 7 Seas Lagoon or the World Showcase Lagoon, if you are very discreet.:rolleyes1

I just told DH to put my ashes in the seven seas lagoon and his response, "I ain't going back to Disney World without you!"
So nice to know he cares.:lmao:
:cheer2:

Q: If one elects to be cremated at death, are there Florida laws governing where the cremains may be released?

AHCS: There are no specific funeral statutes at this time concerning disposition of cremated remains by the public off the coast of Florida. When American Heritage Scatters cremated remains for families, it is performed 3 miles offshore to comply with federal regulations.

So, it would appear as though if you are doing a scattering at sea, that you need to be at least 3 miles offshore to satisfy federal regs. However, it looks like there is no FL law regarding land or inland water scatterings.

However, it probably would be reasonable to consider that Disney is private property... I don't know if I'd appreciate you showing up at my house to scatter your loved one's cremains... don't know if the Mouse would like it any more... :)
