hi everybody!

im a newbie and am going on my first wdw holiday in about 7 weeks. im a control freak who likes to have checklists by the book just incase i run into some kind of disaster (i dont let the checklists run my holiday though...i still just about know how to have a little spontanious fun!!). would appreciate any little tips from info re photocards, to seaworld...from typhoon lagoon to blizzard beach (ie which is best)...and lots of fun little things (such as the world passports the children can get stamped at epcot, and going to the city hall to get them first timer pins). im really so excited now but feel like i dont want to miss anything in my 2 weeks there!

thanks everybody!

(flying back on my birthday...boo hoo!)

Blizzard Beach is slightly newer than Typhoon Lagoon but both get renovated regularly.

Blizzard Beach has a wave pool which has really small waves. Typhoon Lagoon has a surf pool that rotates between 6 foot surf waves to bobbing waves. People do get hurt in Typhoon Lagoon's surf pool. The ground in both is concrete - not sand.

Typhoon lagoon has sand everywhere. Blizzard beach has a chair lift - like a ski lift.

The family raft ride at Blizzard Beach is larger and longer. Typhoon Lagoon fits two adults and two small kids and you carry the raft up.

Blizzard beach has some large slides. Typhoon Lagoon has water roller coasters.

Food is similar at both.

Blizzard Beach theme is a ski resort and Typhoon Lagoon is tropical paradise, hit by a massive wave.

Depends on what you are after but I think I like Blizzard Beach more - like the theming and the larger floating river more.

have fun planning!

I like both Blizzard Beac and Typhoon Lagoon but I think Aquatica is better than both if them. My kids also love to do the 'Kid Cot Fun Stop' in EPCOT x

Agree. Aquatica is better in my opinion. It's Seaworlds water park. Both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are awesome also! I'd choose Typhoon Lagoon though because of the water coaster! :cool1:

Welcome to the boards :)

what is the kid cot fun stop? cant seem to find any info on it online! there is alot to get through there it seems...will 2 weeks be enough??

im doing disney, universal and seaworld. disney for my daughter, universal for my son and sea world for me :woohoo:

and thanks for the opinions on the water parks...think bcos its going to be a very warm holiday, it wouldnt hurt to do 2 half days at both blizzard beach and typhoon lagoon to cool off after a hot morning strolling round the parks.

oober excited now!! taking a seperate case for souvineers!!

Hi and welcome!

You don't say how old your kids are; I'll assume they're fairly young.

I've never been to Universal or the water parks, and my one trip to Seaworld was when I was in college-- a good 30 years ago. So I'll concentrate on WDW.

Where are you staying? We've never felt the need to spend on the water parks because our resort had such a great pool (and the kids are already salivating over the pool for our next trip) My sister and her family loved Blizzard Beach, but we've never gone.

1) Have you made any dining reservations? (ADRs). You'll probably want to make at least a few, more if you're on the dining plan. Take a look at the menus. You may want to try for Chef Mickeys. If your daughter is a princess fan, take a look at the Aukerhaus castle in Epcot. 5 different princesses stop by for photos and autographs. (Last time, my youngest wore her Belle costume from Halloween, and was greeted with "your highness"-- she LOVED it.) We're also fans of the dinner at 1900 Park Fare-- Cinderella, the prince, and the stepsisters are there, and it's hysterical.

But make those ADRs as soon as possible-- they can be made 180 days out, so you may have to be flexible.

2) Understand what a fastpass is and how it works. Take advantage of fastpasses-- they cut down on the time you spend on line!!! The very first thing we do when we enter a park is get our first fastpass, then we go on some other ride immediately.

3) That brings me to a very important point: have some idea of your priorities. We don't follow a strict touring plan, but we do know at least our first 2 priorities-- that first fastpass and the first line we want to head to. I get all the park tickets, get the fastpasses, and meet the rest of the crew at the other attraction. That's two long lines we've avoided with just a little planning.

4) GET TO THE PARKS EARLY. The parks open with a "rope drop" show. Plan to see it every day. You'll get more done in the first two hours than you will the rest of the day. You can nap later. Do your touring early!

5) Plan to go back mid day for a swim &/or nap. The August heat will wipe you out. We're out of the parks by 1 pm (after having been there since they opened.) We enjoy the resort pool, then we're refreshed when we return for those dinner ADRs.

6) Hit amazon.com and get some mistymate misters. They're worth their weight in gold!

7) Hit the dollar store or Walmart and invest in rain ponchos. You can expect some rain at that time of year-- sometimes it's daily. The ponchos in the park are expensive.

8) While you're there, think about some of the glow in the dark bracelets/ necklaces. They make your kids a bit easier to spot after dark, and the kids will love them!

9) consider placing an order with either www.gardengrocer.com or www.wegoshop.com . At the least, get water and snacks for the parks-- we always get breakfast foods too. Water in the parks is pretty expensive, and there's not always a water fountain where you are.

10) If your kids are young enough to be frightened by a ride, learn about the parent swap. Basically, you go on one ride with your son while your husband waits with your daughter. At the end of the ride, you swap-- your son can ride again, and your husband gets on with him. It lets you both get on the ride without waiting twice.
That should get you started! Have a fabulous trip!!

thanks so much for all your wonderful information/advice! :flower3:

i suppose i should have given you a little background!

we are staying in a villa (orange tree)

we will be travelling with a 6 year old girl (who is very nearly coming out of the princess stage and creeping into high school musical and such)

a 7 year old boy (who loves things like space...universal studios is definately his park!)

And finally a 3 year old girl who keeps saying she wants the dolphins, sully and "mikamowski" :rotfl: (her nickname has always been Boo as its been her favourite film from just a couple of months old!)

we did want to get to visit discovery cove but we spent that long deliberating over the price, than when we decided to go for it, there were no more places available!

i have heard a bit about this ADR which has panicked me a little, but to be honest im not sure if i would like to have my meals and times planned out weeks in advance??

also i have been looking into the cost of souvineers etc so i know how much of an allowance to give to the children. are the prices shown on the website stores (for the disney and universal theme parks) reflective of the prices within the parks? because if so, my hypothetical shopping list should be spot on

again thanks for all advice! everything is noted and appreciated!

The "kid cot fun stops" are at EPCOT in the world showcase; each country has a stop area for the kids to do something, craft type things like make masks. And don't worry about having enough, you probably won't have time to see everything even in 2 weeks and you will be visiting other parks, just make your plans of things you absolutely want to do, relax and have fun. If you see and do some or most of what in on your list, then there is always "tomorrow."

As fas as souvineers, if I were you I'd just have them shipped home. I did that from DTD and I didn't have to worry about getting back on the plane with them or whether or not there would be enough room in my suitcase.

Have a great time!

As far as the ADRs, go, why not plan just one or two? Maybe Chef Mickeys, where you can get pictures with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and some of the others? The food is good, an it's a nice way to begin or end your stay at Disney.

i dont think im going to have much choice but to make a couple of ADR's. Im one of these people that only knows what i fancy to eat about 15 minutes before i put it in the oven! :)

ive been on the internet every spare minute i have trying to get as much info as possible. so glad i have found disney dollars! was going to get the children giftcards but these are so sweet, and any spares will make great souvineers for the scrapbooks!

please keep all advice and info coming...everything is very much appreciated and i thank you all for your info so far.

off to work for my nite shift...i will miss researching

I would at least do an ADR for Chef Mickey's. I have been to Disney World many times and have come to the conclusion that it is eaiser to get a picture and autograph from Mickey there than standing in line at the Magic Kingdom.

Don't let ADR stress you out. If you are not sure if a restaurant will have what you like take a look at the menus on this website. Otherwise go with buffets they always have a wide variety and tend to have something for everyone.

Waterparks can be busy during the summer. You are better going in the morning as soon as they open. That way you have a better chance of getting loungers. I would take a look in advance at the waterpark maps and look and see where you will spend the most time and choose loungers near there especially with a 3 yr. old.

I hope you enjoy your trip.
