Which restaurant is better for an early dinner with two (relatively) well-behaved kids (4 and 9) and my DH? What's the difference between the two? What are the things you like/don't like about each?
Many thanks.

I don't know what you've read or heard...but the WCC is a lively joint with guest participation in the antics of the CMs there. The food is pretty good. Check out www.allearsnet.com for current menus for both restaurants.

Artist's Point is definitely more upscale, but we're talking WDW so the restaurant is still kid friendly with a decent kid's menu.

For a very broad generalization, WCC is like going to a really fun casual dining restaurant near your home. AP is like going to a nice family dinner for a special occasion, but at a restaurant where they treat you like family.

With younger kids, I'd stick with WCC. It's made for family fun where AP is more of a fine dining experience. At WCC, your kids can get into the horse races, you'll get hollered at a little by snappy CM's, and if you go with the flow, you have some good laughs. At AP, you'll have a very good dinner and drop a bundle on it. One more thing, the desserts at AP are fantastic.

We are doing a sleigh ride and wanted a late dinner afterwards. I asked between AP and WC. We have a 7 (almost 8) DD. She is very used to going out for dinner and nice restaurants. We made PS for AP. I want a nice dining experience! Calm and quiet! Planning on ordering the white chocolate puzzle for DD. She likes to be creative.

I think it depends on what type of dining experience you are looking for.

I agree with rsschneck. It completely depends on what kind of dining experience you want. We recently ate at AP and had a wonderful meal there. The food was delicious as was the wine flight we did. The cedar-plank salmon is unbelievably good and the berry cobbler dessert is fabulous. We waited a little for it, but the waiter explained it was because the chef baked it fresh for us. And boy did we enjoy it -- warm, fresh from the oven and truly delish.

As for WCC, well I personally wouldn't set foot in it. The noise emanating into the hotel lobby from WCC is enough to discourage me from ever eating there with or without kids. Seems to me it should be named Echoing Canyon Cafe rather than Whispering Canyon Cafe.

All depends on what you like.

So true. Our last trip we had a room on the 5th floor just off the lobby and above WCC. Even with the door closed and TV on, we could hear the hoopla from the restaurant. We only ate there once, breakfast, and weren't too impressed with the food. DD did enjoy the games but she's also very comfortable in a nicer restaurant.

I agree with everyone else above... Although we have never tried AP, we did dine at WCC last month based on some good reviews we read on the DIS. We went while it was pretty slow and had a good waiter, I could see it get very loud in there during busier times but we went for lunch. Not bad priced at all, I think it was 13.00 each for the family style BBQ meal, wonderful ribs!
We had fun and I think kids would have a great time there, however I could see it being a little intimidating for someone who is shy. I've heard you can ask for a quiet table though, where the waiters do not do their "act".

I guess we hit AP on a bad night but we didn't have a good experience. I was disappointed because I was really looking forward to dining there. Check the menus and as others have said, it depends on what kind of dining experience you are looking for.

WCC is one of our families favorite restuarants....but it is definately because of the waiter...and we really get into the antics that go one....we have seen families that didn't enjoy there dining experience because of the loud crazy antics that go on......But AP just isn't too my tastes....for a quiet dinner I much more prefer Jiko....

PS my signiture picture is our familly with our waiter from WCC...he is the best "Bobby the kid"....

You guys are great. This is why I love these boards so much. You give your honest opinions! Now, if only I could decide between the restaurants! We may have to try both!
Thanks again!

zurgswife,

I've seen him in action a couple times when we've eaten at WCC. You're right--he IS the best! He is perfect in that role. Unfortunately, we didn't get him for our waiter, but we did enjoy watching his antics!

Whispering Canyon gets my vote. I always enjoy the atmosphere here, even when traveling solo. Plus the food is very good, the service excellent and the price is not typically disney, ie: overpriced.
IMHO AP is not as much fun, especially for children, the food I find is mediocre and it lacks the Disney atmosphere which is what I go to Disneyworld for.

Where ever you decide to go, I am sure that you will enjoy it.
