Article on traffic in Orlando

I avoid I-4 like it is the plague. With 417, 528, and the 408 (all toll roads, though) you can almost miss I-4. It wasn't too bad when I came home from Jacksonville this weekend, so......

This is why I take a town car from MCO to the resort hotel, they always know the best route to take :)

I avoid it too..would rather pay the tolls on the other highways than stay on I-4....or use the city roads with all the lights..you still get where you are going faster.

Honestly, its all a matter of perspective.

We have driven from PA to FL three times. I4 is a breeze to us.

But remember we livei n Philadelphia, where it takes over an hour to go 10 miles. (no matter if it is rush hour or not!)

We drove on I4 in the rush hour (after 8 am), and thought "This is it? This is the horrible traffic?". we also drove through at 7 pm ish around Universal area, and thought the same thing.

It really a perspective issue. To me the traffic never seems bad, in comparison to Philly, NYC, and my worse traffic nightmare city, Chicago... (San Fransisco/San JOse are bad second choices!)

Personally we took a toll road once, and thought, gee we could have taken I 4 for free....

I don't care where you're from; 7mph is a waste of time. I can relate to the woman who says it cuts into her social life. I know if I live in the outskirts, I'll never leave home if it means an hour on the interstate. I could live in Tampa if I wanted an hour commute to Disney! This is why I can't find an affordable place to live in Orlando (well besides my requirement for a fenced yard & acceptance of big dogs). :(

I'm afraid this is going to be a big nightmare in my future.

DS is going to college this fall in Deland, FL, just on the other side of Orlando. The only direct way to get there from Tampa is on I-4 and the last time we made the trip, to visit the college, the 2 1/2 hour trip took 4 hours due to an accident on the interstate. :(
