Also possibly a defence patent. Basically, deny competitors (eg Universal and others) this technology by locking the patent down first regardless of any ambition to actually put the new tech to use.

Bingo! Disney does this a lot. They will patent something just to have it but don't have any ambition to use it.

Months ago, I had someone swear up and down that Disney could already do this. They said that if a child is kidnapped, they have cameras at foot level all over the park that they use to look for the child's shoes. About time they got a patent, I say.
