Hello! We will arrive at A of A likely around 7 p.m., I think, on our first night and, if simple enough, I thought it might be nice to ride the monorail and watch the electrical water pageant from the Poly - can we do that? We don't want to enter a park. Would it be easiest/quickest to take a bus from A of A to Epcot (can we do that without entering the park?) and take the monorail to TTC and either walk to the Poly or take a resort monorail there? Or is it better to take a bus from A of A to MK instead and then we'd need to, what, take the monorail to TTC and walk or take resort monorail to the Poly? Oh, or walk to CR from MK bus depot and take resort monorail from there? Just trying to clarify this...thank you very much in advance to anyone able to answer!!

You can also take the bus to MK then take a resort launch (boat) to the Poly. I'm not sure that is any faster than taking the resort monorail. More scenic though.

I would take a bus from AofA to MK, then get on a boat to Poly. The reason I recommend the boat over the monorail is that the resort monorail tends to get glitchy around MK closing time (and crowded). Also, the boat only has to go to GF before going to the Poly. The resort monorail has to make stops at CR and TTC before getting to the Poly.

If you do decide to take the monorail instead, I recommend taking the express monorail to the TTC. It bypasses other stops and only stops at the TTC. You can get off there and have about a 5-minute walk to the Poly beach (there's a pathway from the TTC).

You can also ride the ferry boat to the TTC and walk over to the Poly. Not as fun as the monorail probably, but often faster.

Going back to MK after Wishes, I'd get on the resort monorail. It only has a stop at GF before getting to MK, and the huge crowds won't be on the monorail returning to MK after park closing (they'll be waiting at MK though - which won't affect you then). Then take the bus back to AofA.

Sorry for all the options, but the placement of Poly next to the TTC opens a lot of transportation options not available at other MK area resorts.

None of this requires park entry, and it's very much encouraged for non-Poly guests to walk around its grounds, including catching Wishes and EWP from its beach area.

If you are delayed getting to A of A or need more time to check in, etc, you can also watch it from the Contemporary. It usually shows at the Poly around 9pm and the Contemporary (marina side) around 10pm, so if you need more time, you have that as a back up. Check to see when bus service stops from the MK and EPCOT so you know whether to take the monorail back to MK or EPCOT to catch the bus to return to A of A. Enjoy!

I say get on whichever bus comes first. Epcot OR MK. If you want a longer ride on monorail go to Epcot and get the monorail there. (You have to go through bag check, but not the front gate to get on monorail at Epcot if memory serves.)
You will have a longer bus ride from A of A if you ride the bus to MK.

Actually, I think patink is correct. Just thinking from my last visit to Epcot earlier this month, I'm pretty sure the entrance ramp to the monorail is within the bag check perimeter.

And I think you clarified another thing for me too - for some reason I was thinking that I had to go to CR (or another MK resort or the TTC) to catch the resort monorail, but I can actually exit from the Disney bus at MK and there is a resort monorail right there to take?

Sort of. It's a short walk to the MK monorail station (which includes a resort monorail stop) from the bus stop. You will pass in front of the MK gates as you walk.

on the bus ?
AoA to MK, without any congestion on the road, takes 15 minutes (actual driving time). Buses are supposed to run every 20 minutes. So that's *supposed to be* the time you need to consider.
Then once at MK you need to take the boat or the monorail to Poly. I would suggest to allow at least 20 minutes for this part.
I'd also leave 15 minutes to go from the launch to the restaurants and check in a bit before 8pm to be seated at around your ADR time

adding it all up, that's 70 minutes if you want to be on the "safe side". 90 minutes to be on the safest side. And 45 minutes if you're insanely lucky (I wouldn't dream of that one though, even if it's doable)

Yes! Our philosophy is if we have an early ADR at one of the parks we take the bus. If we have an early ADR at another resort we take a cab. When going to a park, you only have to worry about 1 bus. If going to another resort you have to worry about 1 bus to a park and then another form of transportation to the resort. Too many things can go wrong.

I just took a cab to Poly last week from Pop (which is next to AOA) for my Ohana dinner it was $18 plus tip. It was well worth it! We were originally going to take bus to MK & then take monorail, but I decided I wanted more resort time & saved an hour! I'd do it again!

Does the AOA desk call a cab for you if you need one? Are they vans?(we are a party of 7). Should we arrange the cab before we leave for vacation or when we get to AOA?

The cast members at the main door of the resort will call a cab for you. They will call for a high top van for 7 of you. No need to call ahead or arrange for them - they are pretty much sitting nearby waiting! One time we waited 5 minutes - another mayber closer to 10.
