Art of Animation or Pop Century?

Hi! We're planning my daughter's first ever trip to Disney (she'll be 2 1/2). Although my son and I have previously stayed at Pop twice (and loved it), my husband has only stayed with us at moderates and deluxe resorts. He is a light sleeper so I'm a little concerned about the noise level at a value, but that's our budget for this trip since we'll need a private bedroom for our daughter's naps. It seems like AoA is a bit quieter but also more expensive, but I love the layout of the suites. We're trying to decide between a family suite at AoA or 2 standards at Pop (hoping for a king connecting to a double). Which would you chose?

TIA!!

I'd choose AoA. Since connecting rooms aren't guaranteed (althought I've had good luck getting them). The suites sound like they'd meet your needs well.

If you want to save money get a family suite at the All Star Music. They are significantly cheaper. Pack a white noise machine, download an ap, or bring along a fan to help your husband sleep.

Thanks! Great ideas! I've never stayed at any of the All Stars. How do they compare with AoA and Pop? Since my husband is used to moderates and deluxes, I thought AoA would be closest for a value, but I've never stayed there.

I don't find a huge difference between the All Stars and Pop. I actually like the food courts at the All Stars better than that at Pop. No value is going to be close to a moderate in terms of atmosphere, the values are a bit bolder in their decor. I have found if you request a room/suite on the back side of a building they are very quiet, so that should help your hubby out with sleeping. I would stay in an All Star family suite and use that extra $90 a night you save over AoA for food.

Oh my! I didn't realize there was that much of a difference! How are the buses at ASM?

Previous to this year, I had only stayed at moderates and deluxes. We stayed at AoA earlier this year in the Little Mermaid section, so I cannot speak from experience about staying in the suites. However, I can tell you what I experienced from walking around the resort. I can also tell you that I probably would not stay in the Little Mermaid section again, but that is mostly due to the long walk to Animation Hall (food court, gift shop, buses, etc.) and not due to a rowdy atmosphere. (You may already know all of this if you have ever walked over to AoA during your stays at Pop.)

The Lion King section has no pool, which may help reduce the noise. It does have a small play area that can be fun for younger kids (although I doubt it will keep them occupied for very long). And the Big Blue Pool is next door in the Finding Nemo section, so a pool is not too far away. They showed the evening outdoor movies between the Lion King section and the Finding Nemo section (although that can change). I don't know if the sound could be heard in the rooms, but it is something to consider if your party wants to go to sleep early.

The Finding Nemo section has the main pool. This could be a negative if you get a room facing the pool due to noise. Also, as stated above, the movie is shown in the area between Finding Nemo and the Lion King.

The Cars section has its own pool, but it didn't seem to be too loud when we walked by. If you want a pool in your section, but don't want it too loud, this may be a good choice.

There are a lot of great things about the resort. The theming at AoA was amazing throughout the resort. Personally, I was most impressed by the Cars section. I would take some time to walk around the resort regardless of where your room is (assuming you choose AoA). Animation Hall was also impressive. There is some nice sketch art in the lobby, and the food court has some nice art also. The gift shop is also a nice size. Bus service seemed pretty typical (although pickup at the Magic Kingdom was the farthest one away).

The answer to your question depends on how you use the resort. Is it mainly a place to sleep? If so, then AoA may not be worth the extra cost when compared to other value resorts. Will your group appreciate the theming? These are some things to consider.

I hope this helps. Good luck. I'm sure it will be a great experience no matter where you stay.

Thank you. We usually take breaks in the afternoon, and now with a toddler we definitely will. We walked through AoA on our last trip, and I think my daughter will love the theming. The Lion King and Cars rooms both sound perfect. I am going to take the PP's advice and look into ASM too, but I think we've ruled out Pop since they can't guarantee connecting rooms or kings.

We've never stayed at AOA so I can't comment on the noise factor there but when we stayed in a family suite at All-Star Music we were in Jazz building 2 and it was so quiet and peaceful and still a short walk to the main pool, the piano pool, food court, and bus stop. The layout of the family suites are really nice too, especially the separate bedroom with a queen size bed.

Oh my! I didn't realize there was that much of a difference! How are the buses at ASM?

Very good. Each All Star has it's own bus way more often than they share. Sharing is more the exception than the rule. And even when they do share it is not a big deal at all. The resorts all connect by their parking lots, so it doesn't take long to swing by the next resort and pick up guests.

We had a great stay in an ASMu family suite years ago! We had a room that was on the back side of the building...super quiet! Easy walk to the food court and buses! Loved our stay there!

Save the money on the resort...and stay at the ASMu...I don't think you will regret it!

Thanks! I'm actually leaning toward the All Stars now! While AoA looks very cool, that's a big difference in price!
