Previous to this year, I had only stayed at moderates and deluxes. We stayed at AoA earlier this year in the Little Mermaid section, so I cannot speak from experience about staying in the suites. However, I can tell you what I experienced from walking around the resort. I can also tell you that I probably would not stay in the Little Mermaid section again, but that is mostly due to the long walk to Animation Hall (food court, gift shop, buses, etc.) and not due to a rowdy atmosphere. (You may already know all of this if you have ever walked over to AoA during your stays at Pop.)
The Lion King section has no pool, which may help reduce the noise. It does have a small play area that can be fun for younger kids (although I doubt it will keep them occupied for very long). And the Big Blue Pool is next door in the Finding Nemo section, so a pool is not too far away. They showed the evening outdoor movies between the Lion King section and the Finding Nemo section (although that can change). I don't know if the sound could be heard in the rooms, but it is something to consider if your party wants to go to sleep early.
The Finding Nemo section has the main pool. This could be a negative if you get a room facing the pool due to noise. Also, as stated above, the movie is shown in the area between Finding Nemo and the Lion King.
The Cars section has its own pool, but it didn't seem to be too loud when we walked by. If you want a pool in your section, but don't want it too loud, this may be a good choice.
There are a lot of great things about the resort. The theming at AoA was amazing throughout the resort. Personally, I was most impressed by the Cars section. I would take some time to walk around the resort regardless of where your room is (assuming you choose AoA). Animation Hall was also impressive. There is some nice sketch art in the lobby, and the food court has some nice art also. The gift shop is also a nice size. Bus service seemed pretty typical (although pickup at the Magic Kingdom was the farthest one away).
The answer to your question depends on how you use the resort. Is it mainly a place to sleep? If so, then AoA may not be worth the extra cost when compared to other value resorts. Will your group appreciate the theming? These are some things to consider.
I hope this helps. Good luck. I'm sure it will be a great experience no matter where you stay.
