Pirate fleet?!!? No. Privateer fleet. There's a difference. Privateers are licensed by a government, to harass the ships of enemy nations and are required to return a certain percentage of their haul to that licensing government.

Pirates do it for their own benefit.

National Geographic is just sensationalizing to get viewers. I understand why they do it, but it's a bit disappointing, considering their reputation.

But, maybe I'm just too big a maritime history geek. And, hey, it's not as bad as History channel, which I once watched present a complete fabrication as an historical pirate fact.
