Arriving a day LATE for check-in????

For some reason I am worried about this..... We don't know if we are driving or flying, but what if there is bad weather and our plane is delayed so we aren't able to check in until the 'second' day of our Disney stay? Or what if there is a major accident on the highway? Has this happened to anyone before? Do you still get the same package as you booked? And does having paid for the first night hold your room for you? Please help I think that I am a major WORRY WART!

Never had this happen to me at WDW, but I have had it happen at another hotel. Due to one delay after another what is usally an 8 hour trip took more than 24 hours including an overnight at an interim airport. We called the hotel and it was no problem. We still had to pay for the missed night, but we were able to check into our room at about 9 am when we finally arrived.

On another trip I picked up our rental car about 18 hours late and also had no probelm. Again, I had called the rental car agency and told them we were on a different flight and would be arrriving late.

If losing the value of the first night would cause you a financial hardship, you can get trip insurance that will cover you for costs resulting from delays due to traffic accidents or significant tie-ups or missed flights. Go to insuremytrip.com and make sure you read the fine print before you commit to any policy to make sure it will cover the kind of incident you are concerned about.

You could take your chances and book nothing for your first night, staying at an airport hotel if you get in really late, and going to Disney (Magical Express still works) the next morning to begin your resort stay.

If you get in on time you could try to stay at a value resort for the first night. They'll move your ME transportation up a day on the spot to match this knowing that you will instantly unbook the value resort if they don't.
