Hi Everyone.

I've never done DME and my friend is going to disney in a few weeks. We always do a rental car.

Her flight into orlando doesn't arrive until 10:30 pm at night.

Will they still transport her luggage, or would it be better for her to grab her own luggage and haul it to the DME busses?

I was kind of worried, if she didn't grab her own luggage would the luggage show up in the middle of the night and well, wake them up. They are only going for 3.5 days, and wouldn't want the first nights sleep be interupted by luggage arriving in the middle of the night.

If they don't want to get their luggage delivered to them in the middle of the night, but delivered to them the next morning some time. Is this possible?
They were thinking about putting their overnight things in the carry-ons, and then not worry about picking up their luggage.

What would you recommend since they have the late arrival?
Any other later night arrivals have and experiences to share?

Thanks,
Connie

At 10:30 p.m. they should still be pulling luggage. The way DME works, however, you should always expect that luggage will be delivered three or so hours later, which is basically the middle of the night in this case. I think they'll hold it for you overnight and deliver it in the morning, if you request that. If, for some reason, their flight is delayed, I believe that anything that comes in after 11:00 p.m. is not delivered until morning.

When we've come in later I've always just preferred to leave the DME tags off of my luggage and get it myself. You lose the convenience of not having to deal with baggage claim, but you know you'll be able to get your things organized in your room before you go to bed so you don't have to deal with it the next day.

Your friends have several options here. They can put the yellow tags on their checked bags and have them delivered to the resort. Since it sounds like they don't want to be woken up in the middle of the night, they can talk to both Bell Services as well as the front desk, and tell them to bring the bags in the morning..do not deliver them at night. OR...
they can leave off the yellow tags and just head to baggage claim and get their bags. Then, they can bring them to the DME checkin counter, and the bags will go underneath the same bus they are on. And they will have their bags right there with them.
While I love not having to lug my bags around the airport, if I were coming in after 9:00 pm, I would grab my own bags.

There have been a few threads here about people who arrive close to 11 pm and what happens with their luggage.

Would you be kind enough to post what you friend decided on doing with her luggage? If she decided to utilize DME for transporting her luggage, please tell us what the turnaround time really was. Thanks so much!

I would totally grab my own stuff.

When we were there in 2006 we used ME and landed at 5:30. When we got in from dinner at 9:30pm our stuff was in the room but we were missing 1 bag. No biggie, I wasn't angry or anything when I called to report it at around 10:00pm & asked everyone, ME, our hotel's valet & our hotel's front desk to NOT deliver until the next day. I even put a do not disturb sign on the door. Guess what, the guy ignored the sign & disturbed EVERYONE close to midnight. I don't even want to go into how angry everyone was that night...The loud knocking that woke us up startled everyone in the room, then we had to put the kids back to bed, ect:mad:

This year we got in early and it all ran smoothly.:cool1:

Still, I wouldn't chance being woken up too early if we ever fly late again. Many people on the DIS set a cut-off at 5pm and I'd tend to agree.

Update:

When I talked with my friend last week she mentioned she got the DME tags, etc. So, I thought she was all set for DME.

Talked to her today, and she hadn't gotten the DME tags, she thought the tags that you get when you get a package that say disney on them, were the dme tags... oops. I believe she called last night to give the airline info, even though I told her last week, to call in her flight info right away... but she waited, and they told her it was to late for them to send the DME tags out since she leaves this wed.

So, she will be picking up her bags in baggage claim, and bringing their stuff over to the DME bus.

She still hasn't made her ADR's yet either. I've been telling her for weeks to do this... She is going w/ her brother and I don't think she gets how you just can't go up and get a table at the sit down restraunts. They got the dining plan and I think she was wanting to pick out restraunts together, but he doesn't have the time, and she doesn't want to offend him... I think they may be eating lots of counter service, or doing sit downs at lunch.

Thanks for the tips on DME..

Connie

Be prepared. I hope you're really good friends - because anything that goes wrong is going to be your fault... :teeth:

Hi Connie...I have some friends that are 'planning' (and I use that term quite loosely) the same way your friend is. They are going in August and seem to think there is no need to make any ADRs. They are paying for concierge level at the GF and getting the DDP as well. Party of about 7. I'm sure I'm going to have to go up to their house in the next month or so and explain everything yet again, and when they get their DME stuff, well....I can just see the blank faces now. In fact I think I had better ask sooner, rather than later, if they did book DME.:confused3 I keep saying...WDW is no place for spontanaity!!!
