Am I being too optomistic to think that on arrivial night we could go to the parks if our plain lands at 3:00 and we are taking the Disney express shuttle service?

I would say that if you land at three you should safely be at your hotel by five- so yes, you will be able to hit a park that evening.

You will usually get to your resort an hour after landing. If I am traveling with adults, I like to hit a park on arrival day. If we have the kids, I like to just go to a character meal and hit the resort pool. This way we are rested to make it to the park opening the next day.

Our plane arrives at 6:30 pm, I plan to be at our resort (Sog) by 8, and at Chef Mickey's at 8:30pm. Then on to MK for Spectro Magic at 11pm and some late night rides. MK will be open for resort guests till 2am. Then on our first full day we will sleep in!!!!!

It might take approx 1 1/2 hours from the time you touchdown and arrive on property so my guess you can be at parks by 6pm if you decide to check in first.

You could easily go to one that stay open late like MK. Of course I wouldn't waste a day on it if you don't have enough days on your ticket.

If you are staying on property, try and find out what parks have the EH, this way you dont feel rushed and you can enjoy an extra 3 hours.

If you check your luggage, be sure you don't need anything from it for your park night. It takes a while for the luggage to get to your room.
