Arrive late at night Sunday and come Monday early?

Okay, so as I mentioned in another thread, our plane gets in late and we won't get to the resort until 8:00 p.m. I have two choices:

1. Book a cheap place to stay off-site and come Monday morning early to get a better room choice. (There are five of us travelling though, so it won't be that cheap!)

2. Just show up and hope that my room is good.

Isn't there a third option, which is to show up, and if we don't like the room come down Monday morning and ask for a change? Is changing rooms something that is so discouraged that it would be easier to stay off-site that first night?

I have done both of the options you suggest as I regularly fly on a Sunday. I prefer the early check in on the Monday. When a room has not suited me, I happily pay the change fee the next day.

I should say that I accept that everyone is likely to get a room that wouldn't be their first choice from time to time and I never make a fuss. However, many of my stays are quite long (10-12 days) and therefore I'm prepared to pay to be in my chosen area. For stays of just a few days, I don't bother wherever they put me.

I didn't even know there was a change fee. How much is it? Why is there one? I mean, if we were changing resorts is there a change fee then too?

Change fee is $30. No there is no fee when you change resorts as that is a separate booking.

I would priceline a MCO hotel. Most of them are 3* or better so you are safe in getting a nice hotel. They all have shuttles to take you to and from so you wouldn't have to start your car rental or catch ME until Monday morning. We did this on a precruise stay and ended up with Sheraton Suites for $50 per night. I have heard of some getting the Hyatt.

It's a cleaning fee because the room will have an unscheduled full cleaning.

Studio/Inn Room - $30.00
One-Bedroom - $45.00
Two-Bedroom - $60.00
