I know the fires out that way are not really close to Disneyland but I am wondering if the smoke has been bad from it? We have asthmatics so want to be prepared!

I'm not near DL, but in an area where wildfires and smoke happens. I would bring whatever inhalers or medications are helpful to managing the smoke. We can have wildfires close by that don't impact air quality at all as the wind is blowing the opposite direction. And that can change overnight and we wake up to poor air quality/lots of smoke. I'd rather pack a few extras just in case and not risk having asthma problems on vacation. Hope it is all clear for you!

California is ginormous and there currently no fires near DL...but 5 days is a long ways!

Other advantage is that typical wind patterns are a breeze from then ocean which if there were any fires it typically blows smoke inland.

Now...there are occasionally Santa Ana winds blowing the opposite direction and fires in the hills east of Anaheim...but as of today you have zero to worry about with current conditions.

I will be watching this thread as well. We arrive on Friday and smoke will really be a negative on any vacation. We live in the North and we have woken up to what seems like a fire right next door, that is really 4 hours north of us. We have even been impacted by smoke from fires in Canada. So yes, that smoke can travel a LOOOOONG way!

Thank you for replies. I always come prepared with medicine and inhalers. I was more thinking being prepared just in an overall sense of the situation. We have never been to California so thinking ahead. Already planning to map out the closest ER and urgent care for worst case scenario.

There is a fire burning not TOO far east of DL. However, the smoke is blowing east so there are no air quality issues. The fire started yesterday. You can see the smoke from DL. It is the Blue Cut fire in San Bernardino county near the 15 fwy. It is probably about 60 miles away.

Don't go to the "nearest" ER. Go to UCI Medical Center ER. It's a FAR better option than the others nearby DL.

My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out the families and firefighters that are dealing with this right now. So devestating.

I remember hitting DL back in 2006 when there was a fire somewhere nearby. Every now and then, I smell a fire and it takes me back to DL. Weird, huh? Anyway, when we were there, I saw several people wearing surgical masks to help filter the smoke. That was in Feb, though. Nice and cool. I can't imagine wearing one of those in this heat.

Thanks for sharing the links! I will be checking those as I will be there next week as well.

I'm in DL now and there is no hint of smoke whatsoever. I'm an asthmatic too and totally understand your concern. Enjoy your trip! We leave tomorrow :(

I live in Anaheim, and there is no smoke issue currently.

Alas the fire in the Cajon Pass area is large and nowhere near contained. It is impact the main freeway from the Southland (LA/Orange Counties) to Las Vegas which has been closed fully at times, and might have to close again.

So yes, there is a possible of the Disneyland area getting smoke, depending on how the winds change. Right now, the winds are change quite frequently and one of the main issues that the firefighters are dealing with, as it is hard to plan where to attack it.

But there is no real way the fire can head south, it can easily move west along the mountain rural areas, but an Urban area that has a lot less "fuel" for the fire will help stop moving it in the main Southland areas, which includes many counties in Southern California including Disneyland.

But there is still a very high fire risk in the area (what is called a "Red Flag") and the nearby Anaheim Hills and northern section of the Cleveland National Forest would more than likely impact the Disneyland area, once again, depending on winds.
