I'll have 2 kids, a baby and a stroller. What time should we be pulling into the MK parking lot in order to make rope drop? (We've never actually made rope drop so I'm probably being delusional here but as early as possible would be great!)

On an average day, one that isn't EMH and isn't a high crowd day, if you're parking at 7:45 or 8 am you'll be able to walk to the resort monorail and be through bag check and tapstile in plenty of time to either wait at the tunnel or watch the show.

Having followed Josh of EasyWDW's morning pictures I would be there much earlier than that. I would be parking at TTC at 7:15-7:30 at the latest. I would want to be across the lagoon by 8-8:15 at the latest to be ahead of the rope drop crowds. That said, we never make that

Ok - my dd and I parked the car in Alladin last Thursday (so president's week). We parked at 7:50 and were one person back from the rope at the right tunnel. Walked onto 7 dwarves mine train. If someone isn't trying for that or A&E, I'd say that 8 am is fine.
LaurenT - how many rides, or until what time would you say MK was short standby for other attractions besides 7DMT? Just wondering if getting there at RD gets you on 1, 2, 3 standby attractions or ???

That's hard to guess. It would depend on the crowd level that day and exactly which rides you were going on. If I had tried to get back on the mine train, I probably would have waited 45 minutes. I remember we walked o to space mountain and the buzz after the mine train. So at least three. If you were to head straight to Frontierland, you'd likely be able to do Big Thunder over and over and over ... But if you chose Splash, you wouldn't get as many rides because it's a much longer ride and while you're on it, the line is building. So it's very dependent on the choices you make. The one thing that is never dependent is that the first two hours will be much more successful than the rest of the day. That's been true for me for dozens of visits.
Last year, my friend and I planned to make rope drop for the first time. The paper schedules we had said that MK was opening at 9am. We got there at 8:40am, very excited! Well, the park was already open.
I asked a CM, and she said something to the extent of it being due to a higher amount of visitors that week, they decided the night before to open at 8am instead of 9am.
With that being said, does anyone have a recommendation of who or where I should ask about it this coming summer? I admit that I didn't check the app for the schedule and depended solely on the papers. We are going to try again, or maybe I will just play it safe and arrive at 740am!
