We will arrive at AKL around 7:30/8:00 PM after a 14h trip from Europe. We will get lunch on the plane to Atlanta but no food on the next leg to Orlando. Since I figured we would be glad if we only had a short walk back to the room after dinner, I booked an ADR at Boma for 9:15 PM.

But now I'm second guessing myself if a all-you-can-eat buffet might not be too much after the trip and if we just should go to the self-service place at AKL.

Myself, I always have full dinner when arriving in the US, it's just part of my vacation starting ritual, but on this trip I'm being joined by two middle-aged ladies who have never been outside of Europe, so I wonder if it not might be to much for them.

What do you think? What are your eating habits after a long trip?

With that sort of schedule, if you don't think you'll be able to enjoy the buffet, I'd get something quick from the Mara. It's no fun when you're too tired to enjoy your meal. A quick dinner and off to bed may be just what you need to wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed to enjoy your vacation the next morning!

I'd have dinner at the airport. McCoy's at the Hyatt Regency is good. There is also a Macaroni Grill, which is pretty good. It always takes longer to get your bags, get on the Magical Express bus, etc., than people estimate. I would not want to eat a buffet at 9:15 pm after a long flight.

I would keep the adr and see how you feel after you get to the hotel. You can always cancel it if your companions aren't up to it.

Have a great trip!

We have a rental car, so I would like to get out of the airport as soon as possible, also because I will need to pick up my AP and some groceries between check-in and ADR time.

But as suggested above, I will keep the reservation for the time being and then decide on the spot.

So you land at MCO btw 7:30 and 8 and have to go to customs and then get the car and head to Disney AFTER stopping for groceries? And a stop to get your AP?

I was thinking you would be lucky to be LEAVING the airport bu 9:15.

DO you have time to eat in Atlanta? If not, I would get something to eat at DTD when you get your AP (assuming that is where you are going). Think takeout and eat in the room after checkin :laundy:

We land at MCO at 6:30, Immigration and Customs have been done in ATL, where we have a 2:25 stopover, so just about enough time to get to the new gate after I & C.

In MCO we usually got out of the airport pretty fast.

Even with a rental car, I think it's being very optimistic counting on arriving at AKL around 7.30.

Besides all of that, we tend to find that travelday is just that; travelday. We tend to do flights that arrive at MCO anywhere from 6-8 pm. After arrival at the resort, checking in and checking out the room, we do a quick trip to the foodcourt, get ourselves a new mug and some drinks, maybe sometimes a quick snack (most of the times not even that), go back to the room, tend to find the suitcases waiting there for us and jump right into bed to get a good start on the next day. No way we would do an ADR, including in our own resort. Takes too much time, too 'relaxed' (although the noicelevel at Boma is not too quite), not the best situation after a long flight for us. ;)

I'd get a counter service meal either at the airport or at your resort. There is no way I'd want a buffet (large) meal at that hour after travelling for that long.

Get something smaller hit the bed early and start the next day ready to go!

We almost always eat at Boma on our arrival night after a 10+ hour trip to get there (4 hr drive to airport and a 6 hour flight). The earliest we have eaten is 9:30. We enjoy the variety offered there and honestly, we are always very hungry after a long travel day (and airport/airplane food).

As an international visitor two I think the question depends on two main things

1. Do your companions travel well? My DS can barely eat or drink after the flight while it has the opposite effect for the rest of us and we are ravenous.

2. How will they deal with the time difference. When we arrive at WDW (resort not airport) it is usually about Midnight UK time and we are all hungry but shattered. Want to eat quickly not 'enjoy' a meal and then head off to bed ready to bounce up early the next morning for our first breakfast adrs and a rope drop at MK.

We usually get a pizza between the two of us from Wolfgang Puck Express and bring it back to the room after our long flight. We can put our comfy clothes on and just chill in the room.
