My mom's 50th Birthday is on Monday - (To preface this, we are always late with our gifts to each other, that's just how we work!)

I don't know what to get her... this is an important birthday and I definitely am going to write a song for her and play it on my guitar - but that's just not enough. My job only pays me about $520 - $550 a week -plus I'm still paying off student loans and credit cards... Any ideas at all??

My mom loves horses (we own 3) as well as all animals
She loves RPG video games (that's lame though)
She loves reality TV and Lost
She's not increidbly sentimental, but I've cracked her a few times
She also loves bonsai's,but I've gotten her those before and it just wouldn't be original
She LOVES to relax and really appreciates nature

She lives in Long Island, NY with a huge backyard where her stables for the horses are.

Any ideas? Thanks so much!

A massage, or a manicure/pedicure type gift might be nice.

Or how about a nice meal, just the two of you?

How about making a nice dinner for her or taking her out to her favorite restaurant.

As always a spa gift certificate is nice to pamper herself.

How about making up a nice gift basket that includes the lyrics to your song, a couple of books or maybe video games, cozy slippers, candles, and bath gel.

My favorite gift from my kids when I turned 50 this last March was a list of.."50 Things We Love About Mom".

The list included some really sentimental things, like "Has always, and will always, love us more than anyone else in the world", "Gave us each 3 amazing siblings", and "We never had to walk 7 miles in the snow to school, uphill both ways, because Mom was always there to give us a ride" (I'm glad they noticed!!)

Of course there were some funny ones too. Like, "Nobody, but nobody, pulls off lime green like Mom" (hey I've always liked lime green!) "No one looks better in a fannypack" and "Always the first to suggest a Mickey Bar!"

Then there was "Her signature is really easy to forge"?!?!?! I told them I didn't want any more info than that!

Anyway, I was really touched by the list, I've actually framed it. It is amazing the things they remembered, and yes, I always "Put in a good word for them with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny".

Happy birthday to your Mom, and good luck in finding just the right gift for her.

I think anything from the heart. WDWFAN9's idea is great! I second a dinner that you prepare and share with her (at her place or yours). Trust me, she won't want you to spend a lot of money on her. But something sentimental! One friend's son wrote a beautiful essay about her and posted it on his blog and directed her to it. (of course, that Mom now has son's blog address!)
