Around the World & Universal in 9 Days!!!

Sherabby,

I know where Canonsburg is. My husband went to College in Washington, PA. My son is 12 years old. The first time we travelled alone, without my husband, and no one else was in January 07 to Disney. We had such a good time, we decided to go again in August.

Although I missed my husband, it was a special for just the two of us to go. When your son gets a little older, I'd highly recommend doing this. When you said your son is 7, that brought back memories of when I took my son to Disney with my mom and sister but my husband didn't go. My son cried on the plane and said that he missed his dad. I felt a little guilty. So, waiting a few years, I think you'd have a great time:thumbsup2

Friday, August 24th

Well, today was our Typhoon Lagoon day. I was determined to get to the water park earlier than we had Blizzard Beach. We arrived at the park a little after 8:00 a.m. After getting our early entry wristbands we headed over to rent some towels and a locker. We found a couple of chairs and unloaded our stuff.

We decided to try Humonga Kowabunga (sp?) I believe this is Typhoon Lagoon's biggest slide. This slide did not appear as intimidating as Summit Plummet and besides when we were at BB a little girl about 9 said she loved Humonga Kowabunga so I decided to go for it:laughing:

When I got to the top I must admit I needed a little persuading from the life guard. Wow, it was dark in that tunnel but that was a good thing because I couldn't see how steep the slide actually was. The slide was fun but you come to a really sudden stop at the bottom when you hit the water. Before I would stand up, I needed to adjust my bathing suit. DS also enjoyed this slide. Since it was still not too crowded, I decided to take another ride down. Again, the bathing suit needed some serious adjusting before I stood up:rotfl2:

Next, we wanted to try the snorkeling before the official 9:00 a.m. opening to the general public. Great, there was no line. After getting instructions from the life guard regarding the equipment and rules we were sitting at the edge of the water and it was sooooo cold, I just could not get in. DS snorkeled and enjoyed it.

Up next...the crush n gusher slides. I think this is what they are called. It's the three slides that you go down in a large innertube together. We were able to do all three with very little wait. All I can say is make sure you lift you bottom up because if you don't you'll certainly feel it. These slides are fun but a little rough, just my opinion. Hold on tight!

We were excited to try the wave pool next. Now, this again is my opinion but I wasn't too impressed with it. First of all, it was packed. I think it would be tons of fun if it were not so crowded. We headed out to the line at the bottom of the pool. If we went beyond this line. the water would be over our heads so it was nice to have a line to judge the depth. When the waves came, it was fun but I just couldn't relax because I kept feeling as though someone was going to end up on top of me or my son. Sure enough, I got kicked in my stomach and it was extremely painful:sad1: We stayed a little while longer and even when I got out, I still had stabbing pain in my stomach. What happened was when the wave came, the people in front of me started swimming away from the wave and I got kicked. I'm glad it was me and not my son.

When we got out, we got something to drink and some snacks. Since I wasn't impressed with the food at BB, I decided we'd just wait til we left to eat.

Up next was the lazy river. Nice and relaxing. Ds wanted to go back to the wave pool. I thought maybe if I stayed in the shallow end it would be safer. No such luck:mad: As a wave was coming, this really big guy was pushed into my shoulder and I fell down. To his credit, he actually made his way over to me to see if I was okay.

Maybe the wave pool isn't always so hazardous, but I was having a hard time here.

The things I didn't like about it was that if you went over your head, the pool is so wide you would have difficulty getting to the side and all those people being tossed around with no control of their own is a really scary thing. I was not impressed. I told DS we were getting out because it was only a matter of time before we got hit.

I was ready to leave the park at this time, but DS wanted to ride Humonga Kowabunga again. I sat at the bottom and watched as he went down 5 or 6 times. I wasn't going to ride again with so many people there now . I'm glad I rode it earlier.

It was now going on 2:00 p.m. and we were ready to leave. We had dinner reservations for LeCellier tonight. I was looking forward to this, since I had to cancel our reservations in January.

We got back to WL around 2:30 p.m. We stopped in Roaring Forks Counter Service and got a quick bite to eat since we didn't eat much at the water park.

I decided to relax since we'd be going to Epot for dinner tonight at LeCellier around 6:30 p.m. It started raining when we got to our room. There were severe thunderstorms and just a huge downpour for hours.

Sidenote: I seriously considered getting tickets to the Pirate and Princess party at the MK again for tonight because we had such a good time on Tuesday. Boy, was I glad that I didn't because of all this rain and thunderstorms.

Close to 5:30 p.m. it was still raining. DS and I discussed cancelling our reservations and just staying in tonight but eventually decided to go. DS went to the arcade while I finished getting ready for dinner.

As we entered Epot the rain let up a little so at least we wouldn't be soaked as we made our way to Canada. The gardens around Canada were so pretty. I had never eaten at LeCellier so I was looking forward to it, especially after reading all the great reviews.

As we entered the downstairs restaurant, I thought it was a nice setting although some of the seats were a little close together and they were busy. Our waiter was a nice guy and did a good job. He said they're the most popular restaurant and also the smallest. Anyway, I ordered a canadian beer and DS had some sort of non-alcoholic drink which he loved and ordered two. For appetizers, I had the tomatoes and cheese stack, which was delicious and DS had the cesaer salad, which was okay. He's used to the salad being cut up and this was just the big pieces of lettuce. We both had filets, which were also very good. I ordered mine med.well and it was just a little overdone for me...but it was still tender. And, of course, the bread was great. For dessert, I had the creme brulee and DS had the chocolate moose. Overall, I enjoyed this restaurant. I wouldn't hesitate to make reservations here again:thumbsup2

When we headed out of the restaurant, it was still raining. It wasn't a downpour but was a steady rain. There was a ton of water on the ground. I had flat sandals on with no back and I kept sliding. I felt like I was on ice skates:scared: I eventually had to take them off if I wanted to get anywhere. In some areas, the water was up to our ankles.

We decided to do a couple of things in future world that we haven't seen for a while. We saw Honey, I shrunk the Audience. It's been quite a while since I saw this and it was still enjoyable. After the show, we spotted a booth where you can get your picture taken for $5.00. This was so much fun. You could pick the background and we were being so silly trying to center ourselves in the photo. When I asked the girl at the desk for a bag so my picture wouldn't get wet she was laughing and pointed to the ceiling. She said she was watching us on a screen. Oops! I didn't know that was there as we were acting silly behind the curtain:rotfl2:

After that, we went to the Living Seas pavillion. We rode the Nemo ride (the clam shells) and saw the interactive show with Crush afterwards. This was a very cute attraction but certainly geared towards the younger set.

It was still raining out so we hurried to Mission Space. We did the non-spinning side. In my opinion, this side is still pretty good. A couple of years ago, I rode the spinning side and disliked it enormously. Not too many rides make me sick but this one did.

As we were leaving, the rain stopped...

Saturday, August 25th - Our last day in the World:sad1:

We got up early because we had reservations at Cape May Cafe for 9:00 a.m. I decided to take a taxi, why not splurge on our last day. This was a little expensive, I think around $20.00 including tip.

We only waited a few minutes before being seated. This restaurant is also very busy but they did a good job at keeping the food replenished and hot. In my opinion, much better than Chef Mickey's. While eating we got to see the gang::MinnieMo

I really wanted to try and see a few more countries in World Showcase and since we could walk to Epcot from the Beach Club, this is where we headed. We entered the park but as we turned right to go to WS a girl stopped us and said WS didn't open til 11:00 and it was now only 10:25. We decided not to wait and caught the boat to MGM. This ride seemed to take forever...stopped at the Yacht Club, Swan or Dolphin and then eventually to the park.

We went on TOT several times, one of our favorites, took some character pictures (Darth Vader and the Storm Trooper), and just wandered around. I had made reservations for Sci-Fi Dine in for earlier in the week but cancelled them. I was disappointed cause I wanted to check this place out. Fortunately, I was able to walk in and be seated just to get dessert. I was curious about the restaurant after reading the reviews on the atmosphere. W both ordered hot fudge sundaes, which was very good. The atmosphere is really cool:cool1: Actually feels like your at a drive in movie. Can't comment on the actual food, though.

Once outside, it was so hot be decided to head back to WL.

We spent our last evening at the MK. We decided to take it easy since we had just about seen everything already. When we got to the park we wanted to go on Space Mt. again but the line was ridiculous. We were in the vicinity of Toon Town and wanted a few more pictures of Mickey:smickey: before we left. While waiting in line that's when the rain started. We ended up hanging around Toon Town for over an hour cause of the rain and thunder. I eventually, had to get out of there so I bought a couple of ponchos and we braved the rain.

The line for Space Mt. was still very long and it was still raining so we decided to call it a night. Had to stop in the candy store on the way out and bought some gifts for home and a couple of those huge carmel apples:love:

Sunday, August 26th - Back Home

ME was picking us up at 10:00 a.m. for our 1:00 p.m. flight. I considered taking a taxi because we were very rushed in the morning. I envisioned a relaxing last morning like having a coffee on the balcony and a leisurely breakfast. It didn't happen...we barely made it to the bus. But, we did make it and we had a smooth non-stop flight home.

Some Final Thoughts on our trip....

We had a fantastic time. The hotels were great, the only thing I didn't like was the enclosed balcony on the 6th floor of WL. Fortunately, we were able to move.

The Dining Plan is also a great deal. Although, it really seemed like a ton of food this time. Even more so than when we were there in January. Maybe, because we were there for more days. I think we actually left a couple of counter service credits. The food at Roaring Forks was the most I have ever seen at a counter service restaurant.

The crowd level was still pretty heavy this time of year. There are people everywhere, just not the parks....I know this is Disney...

Hopefully, our trip was able to give a few tips and ideas for your next visit to Disney or Universal - thanks for reading:wave2:
