Ok, I'm not an economics or math major, so I'm not even sure how to pose this question, much less search for it, lol. We've been DVC members for about a decade, and I've never really considered this question until the past year.

Our understanding when we bought into DVC was that there was a 'points guarantee' (not sure of the correct working there). Basically, that points wise, for the resort we bought into, which was SS, would always be the same for us.

And yes, I AM taking into consideration new points allocations with this question.

How do you know that you're getting that points guarantee? I've just assumed we always were, but it doesn't, to my eye, reflect when booking a resort.

Am I just confused? How can I be unconfused?

There has never been a points guarantee.

Total points at a resort is fixed by the condo declaration, but points per night per unit can shift within that greater total.

Nothing in any contract has ever guaranteed otherwise.

Maybe points guarantee isn't the right wording, or maybe I completely misunderstood something that I felt was clearly laid out.

Are you thinking about the part that stated there is a guarantee if every night was priced the same?

Thats the only one I remember that If one owned the minimum required, one would be able to reserve at least one day for X if no seasons were built in

As mentioned the total points at the resort cannot change but points can be reallocated between seasons or weeknights, weekdays etc as long as the overall total does not change. There’s also the seasonal date changes for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years that occurs every year but that just shifts the old Premier season dates around and doesn’t change the point totals.

How do you know? Probably best is on these boards as there’s usually a few posters that evaluate the charts when their released if you did not want to make that attempt yourself.

When we first bought DVC the guide said that if a week at a certain time of year at a certain resort and a certain room size cost 150 points...that 10 years from now that same week/time of year/room size would cost that same 150 points.
Maybe that's what you are referring to???
Fyi... I've since learned that is a bunch of baloney because there has been reallocations of the point charts but I find the point costs to be in the same ballpark. So maybe it costs 160ish instead of 150.

So there are select contracts out there that offer guaranteed weeks. You're guaranteed a reservation at your home resort at a dedicated week. Regardless of how the points chart move, or reallocations happen, you're guaranteed that week, that room, at your home resort and you won't have to buy more points to stay there.

Should you forgo that dedicated week, you're guaranteed to be given an alternate option - a set number of points to book elsewhere where it will be subject to a moving points chart.

These guaranteed week contracts are rare, and I was under the impression they were relatively recent. I'm not sure they were available at SSR a decade ago. But that sounds the closest to what you're referring to.

Guaranteed Weeks started with AUL so AUL, VGF, PVB, CCV, and DRR all have them.
