My dh got me a 1.14 Heart shaped engagement ring on my birthday in November 1981. We got married the following October 1982. To this day every piece of jewelry is heart shaped:love:

I have a heart shape too. It's 3/4 carat. Every piece of jewelry before was a heart, so it was expected! ;)

I have a 3/4 heart shaped diamond as well. DH gave me a right hand ring with two hearts and a small diamond in each of them for our 2nd anniv.

My first engagement ring had a stone so small you needed an electron microscope to find it. I sucked that one up in the vacuum cleaner and didn't realize it until it was too late. My second one was a little bigger bit I accidentally ground that one up in the garbage disposal. I now have a 1/4 carat solitaire, a diamond wedding band, a diamond anniversary ring that is about 1/2 carat total and a Past, Present, Future ring. My DH said he wasn't taking any chances and figures at least one of these should survive me. I wear all 4 all the time.

3/4 carat - it looks much larger in the setting, set high - round cut diamond

my ring is very special.. my FIL gave it to MIL for a 40 year anniversary present.. when I became engaged to her oldest son, I got the ring. it is so special to me .. it is 1.9 carots.. something we could never afford or spend the money on.. but it is beautiful and I love it and think of him and his mom and dad when I look at it.. ( i have been married 20 years and both his dad and Mom are gone so that makes it even more special) we will pass it on to our oldest son when he becomes engaged..

I was worried about having a stone set outisde of the band because I wanted matching rings for the both of us. So our is a simple 18k white gold band with a .002 diamond in it and still cost 700$ to be made (it was custom because the ring in the store was made of platinum). But I'm extremely happy with the rings.

My engagement ring is a princess cut center stone that is 1.6 carats, with smaller princess cut stones on either side, each one .5 carats.

I now have a 2 carat center stone in a very contemporary custom floating set with 2 baguettes and then 6 smaller round diamonds.

My original engagement ring was 1/2 carat marquis. This past Christmas my dh surprised me (in Disney World :lovestruc) with a new ring. The middle stone is 1 and 1/2 carat princess cut, with two more princess cut diamonds on each side, each 1/4 carat and then smaller diamonds down the band on both sides. Total, it's a little over two carats. I think it's the most beautiful ring in the world, he couldn't have picked out something more perfect.

My first engagement ring actually had some bad memories associated with it. I was thrilled when he first gave it to me and proposed, but the next day when he told his mother and she went ballistic over us getting married and proceeded to ban us from telling anyone in their family or hometown, it kind of lost it's excitement. So, honestly, I wasn't so sad to see it go. We had the diamond reset into a necklace. We will be married 13 years this summer.

2 carat Royal Asscher cut stone. It's way more than I wanted, but DH said, "No man would hit on you with that ring, because they would think they couldn't afford you." :lmao:Gotta love a mans logic! Such a romantic.:rotfl:

I looooooove that cut! Maybe one day I'll just buy myself one! :rotfl:

I would not be happy if my dbf ever spent a lot of money on a ring for me. I'm not a jewelry person, and I'd probably lose it and then feel awful. We've talked about the subject and I told him I would not want him spending more than $500.

I'm also not a fan of diamonds. mamacatnv, a friend of mine has a saphire and I think it's really nice. Our other friend has some stone I've never heard of before. It's almost greenish in tint but not dark.

Is it a peridot?

My ring is also a sapphire. We found it at a gem mine and my husband had it cut. He designed my ring after one I dreamed about.

My engagement ring has 7 VERY small diamonds in it. The ring didnt cost very much at all. At the time Im guessing around 150.00-200.00 max. and my wedding ring in a simple band (which I wanted) but when we got married we spent every dime we had on buying our property and an old trailor and fixing everything up. We didnt have any money left over for frivolous things like expensive diamonds. Time has passed and the old trailor is gone (sometimes wish I still had the stupid thing at least it WAS paid for) more money coming in and hubby bought me a beautiful 3 stone diamond ring equaling over a carat, it also has 2 diamonds on the inside of the band (its kinda funny because those hidden diamonds are bigger than the ones on my original engagement ring. LOL) but anyway, I still choose to wear the old ring on my left hand with my wedding ring because thats where we began and that little cheap ring means so much more to me. Dont get me wrong I love the big one and wear it on my right hand but the other has more meaning.
Its not the size of the diamond that matters, its the size of your love that counts. To me, a diamond wont keep you warm at night or help you through the bad times that are sure to happen down lifes road.

So sorry to hear about the passing of your husband.

I honestly have no idea. It's small, compared to some of my friends, but I've never put any importance on things like that.

Mine has a 1 carat center stone and the band is lined with diamonds on each side totaling 0.50 carat. My wedding band has diamonds across the band totaling 1 carat, so all together the set is 2.50 carats. I picked the setting out I liked and DH did the rest with picking the diamonds and having them set. :lovestruc I love my rings!!!!

I never bought my wife an engagement ring. We didn't have much money at the time. I laid out my financial situation for her and asked if she'd rather hold onto the savings that we had or get a ring. She opted to keep the money. I suppose we could get one now, but she's never shown any interest.

On the other hand, for our 16th anniversary, we're going to finish paying off our house and be debt free. That's an anniversary gift that she's excited about.

:rotfl:

Just like a man. ;)

Bet she would love a ring. :thumbsup2

We couldn't afford an engagement ring when we got married, but I got a three stone anniversary ring for our 15th anniversary - three good quality emerald cut diamonds that total 1 carat with 3 small channel cut diamonds on either side. I also got a new wedding band to match with 9 channel cut diamonds. I love my DH

We were poor college students when dh bought that ring 35 years ago. It meant a lot to me, so you can imagine how I felt when I woke up one morning and looked down and the diamond was gone. I don't know when it came out of the prongs--at work, in the yard, where. We have looked everywhere possible and it is gone. So right now I am ringless and it feels so very, very strange!:sad1:

2.10 center marquise cut; with .75 in baguettes around.
All rings mean you're loved!:goodvibes
I have friends with larger stones than mine and some with smaller.
