Hi! A child of a friend of ours has just rcvd a discharge from basic training. One person said it was a chapter 11 and one said it was a mentally unstable discharge. Are they one in the same? Would they get an honorable or dishonorable discharge? I tried to look it up on google, but couldn't find any info! Just being curious ... alright NOSEY! Thanks!

I was in the Marines, not the Army. My guess would be that he would get either a Medical Discharge or a General Discharge.

I can't answer your question, so I'm going to bump this back to page one for you.

That should be a "general" discharge...which after a certain amount of time...you can have changed to "honorable"....at least that was the way it was in about 1990.

Many many people wash out of basic. I am sure with the current situation in Iraq the Drill Sergeants are being even more strict...they aren't training a peace time army or a cold war army any more.

Make sure to keep all paperwork straight because it will take time and effort to get the paperwork changed....it took me 18 months to get something added to my discharge paperwork.
