HI Everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster.

My dad is a disabled veteran and is eligible to purchase Armed Forces Salute tickets at SOG. I know he has to be present when the tickets are activated, but does he need to actually use the ticket? He will be present at SOG to activate, but doesn't want to go to the parks. Can another family member use the ticket, or will it just be wasted? Note: If that's the rule, that's totally fine and we are 100% ok with buying an extra full price ticket.

Bonus Question: We are going to rent DVC points for our stay. Will SOG put the tickets on our wristbands, or will we end up with a hard ticket for parks/Fastpass and a wristband for the hotel?

Thanks so much!

I’m not sure about buying/activating at SOG, but last year we were able to activate salutes (that we purchased ahead of time from a base) at park guest services for all family members without having a salute for the military service member who purchased them. He (and I) used regular tickets, since we were staying for a longer than 5 days, but we were there for activation. Disney didn’t have an issue. I’m not sure how strict SOG is though. I’d say plan to purchase an extra ticket but explain your situation and maybe they will be ok with it. Someone else may have experience at SOG and could provide better answers. Not sure how their activation process differs from Disney’s.

We just used these tickets last week. We have APs but bought th m for friends at shades. When we bought them we were told that they were activated but their agreement with disney is they could ask for ID at the gate. We met the friends with the tickets at the gate. They went through no problem and I never had to show my ID. Out of the 6 that the military member is able to buy only 5 can be bought for others.

As soon as they bought the tickets I received an email with the front and back of plastic tickets. We received this about 35 days prior to the trip. They were able to add to their my disney experience, link to magic bands, and book FPs.

Tickets from SOG will be cards, but as the poster above said, you can enter the ticket number on MDE and it will be linked to your bands. Tickets bought from SOG are already activated, I know when I traveled with my son with tickets purchased on Post, they didn't care if he was with us once the tickets were activated, but he had to be there with everyone who was having a ticket activated, so we had to wait a day or two to activate my DH's since he traveled down a few days later than us

It does say one ticket must be used by the military member or military spouse. That means only 5 left for others to use (if military member has an AP, then still only 5 left to use, but military member doesn't have to buy the 6th ticket for themselves if they have an AP). This is what militarydisneytips.com says, which I always think has the best information:

The Disney Armed Forces Salute offers special military tickets. These tickets are for a specified number of days and come in several varieties.

Qualified individuals may purchase up to a maximum of 6* theme park tickets per military member during the 2017 Salute offer period and a maximum of 6* theme park tickets per military member during the 2018 Salute offer period.

One ticket must be used by the member or spouse, the rest can be used by anyone else.

These tickets are non-refundable.

The tickets are valid for the entire length of their individual offer period,

  • 2017 Disney Armed Forces Salute - 1 January through 19 December 2017
  • 2018 Disney Armed Forces Salute - 1 January through 19 December 2018
Tickets from one offer may not be used in the other offer!

Days on the tickets do not need to be used consecutively. Any days left on the tickets will expire at the end of the offer period.

Tickets purchased at military resellers (except Shades of Green) and not direct from Disney must be activated prior to first use in person by the military member or spouse.

Once the tickets are activated the party can split up. For example some go to one park and some to another, or even use the tickets on different days. The Military ID is checked only upon ticket activation.
* For families larger than 6, Disney states "Exceptions should be made for immediate families larger than six people." For example, if a family has five children, Disney will allow all members of the family to purchase Disney Military Promotion Tickets, for Mom, Dad, and the five kids.
