Arizona county policy affects those with a temp of 100.4 or more

Interesting.. Wonder if we'll see more of this in other places across the country?

I live in AZ and even the schools are really cracking down. My DS was sent home with a fever of 99.3 and could return until it stayed below 99 for 24 hrs.

I was at work yesterday and someone told me the guy in the corner office (a high ranking person) has 2 kids with swine flu and is coming to work sick himself. I couldn't believe it! He would expose all of us? He probably has a laptop, he can work at home! Luckily I have no contact with him but he could spread it in common areas by touching something. Then I heard someone on the other side of me say he hasn't been feeling well, can't seem to shake it. :scared1:

My company did put out a notice about a month ago that anyone with flu symptoms had to leave the premises immediately. I can't remember how long they said to stay home. We have a PTO system, so the first 5 sick days are like vacation time and no one wants to give it up. They did say if you had the flu, they would return 1 day to your account but who is only off 1 day for the flu?

How do all of you feel about having this "mandated" - by law or employer?

Would you like to see more of it - or less of it?

I want the government out of my business as much as possible. I don't want mandated vaccination, mandated medication, or anything else heath related mandated by government. A law mandating anyone go home because of an illness is something I don't want regardless of the intention.

An employment policy is different than a law and while I am not happy about it I could swallow that before anything mandated my congress. I am not all that scared of the flu, H1N1 or otherwise. I proactive maintain my immune system and when I get sick it is mild and short lived.

Okay - maybe I should have been more specific.. Mandated by law or the employer.. I'll fix that right now..:)

As a law...NO!!!!!! Congress may mean well but the road to hell is a 10 lane highway because of the pavement their good intentions has provided.

As an employment policy I can live with it. A private employer has a different level of responsibility to our liberty. Mine has a policy that asks that you stay home if you are showing signs of the flu, which is common sense, but they won't force you home.

I do feel that employers should tell their employees to stay home if they are sick. Although, I do not agree with the school that wanted kids to stay home with a temp just above 99 degrees -- temperatures vary by individuals -- something more realistic like over 100.

what about people that could get sick because of you possibly spreading germs? and what if any of those people die because they are not lucky enough to be perfectly healthy like you are?

As long as it's strictly enforced I think it's great.

My college pretty much did the same thing-- they lifted the attendance guidlines (where you can be penalized with your grade for missing) and asked people to think twice before coming and potentially spreading stuff around the campus.

Yet none of MY teachers are allowing makeup work for missed assignments- you get a 0.
I also have to spend time in the local public schools and my instructor told us to get it done early because the schools might close due to swine flu. Yay! Nothing like throwing ourselves into the storm...

If I were you and, personally, had a problem, I would be going to the school administration. My daughter is in school and they are asked to not come to class if they are sick. Their teachers are very, very understanding about the entire situation.

While I understand the notion behind doing this and agree that if you are sick you should stay home until you are well, I have to wonder though how many germs you get just by going to the store or being in a rest or a theme park. Do we ban people from going anywhere? I also wonder about certain illnesses that are contagious BEFORE the onset of the symptoms...chicken pox comes to mind. Then we make everyone stay home 'just in case' because you 'might' be exposed. Everyday we are exposed when we go out of the house.

If you are ill please stay at home. But having the gov't or lawmakers decide the issue is beyond anything I could imagine being done. Lets face it, if I say the only place I could have been exposed is at Walmart..do we close down Walmart until I am symptom free? And then we delve in to the part of allergies and things that cause people to sneeze and sound like they are really sick, but nothing they have is contagious. Its allergies. How do we go about making sure we aren't penalizing people who aren't contagious? Its just too hard of a call for me to make.
