Our 2.5 year old DD is pretty obsessed with the Ariel ride she experienced last summer. We are planning a trip Sept 12-16th and just realized Ariel's Undersea Adventure will be closed Sept 6-16th. We are leaving on Saturday the 17th and don't have tickets -nor could we get them because it would be our 6th day.

Is there ANY chance they will be doing soft openings or testing on Friday the 16th? Is that common or very unlikely?

If you think it's at all likely I might try to sweetly ask a cast memeber if they can help us make it on the ride once before we go. If it's pretty much never going to happen then we wont bother.

Thank you!!

PS. We are definitely already talking to our daughter about how Ariel will be meeting us at her restaurant this year instead of on her ride bla bla...

It sucks when rides are closed when you visit, specially if those are the highlights of a trip. Last year Small World closed for it's Xmas make over the day we arrived, it was awful.

To be honest I wouldn't be so hopeful. :( In my experience Disney is very strict with their schedules and won't let you ride at all. But asking wouldn't hurt anyone. Who knows? Maybe you'll get some Pixie Dust.

I've mostly heard about soft openings when an attraction has undergone a lengthy and/or major refurbishment. For the smaller refurbs, it seems like they stick to the schedule pretty closely. Hopefully your little one will enjoy meeting Ariel instead (she's also featured in Soundsational parade!).

They won't let you ride the ride if it's closed, so there is no reason to ask the CM. They can't control anything. There is always the chance it could open in the evening, but it's unlikely with such a short closure as figment said, most likely they wouldn't have CM staffed to operate the ride. The only thing you could do is take a day off in the middle of the week and save your fifth day for Saturday. Not a great plan if you have to catch a plane though.

Thanks for the feedback!

I knew it was a long shot but thought I would ask the experts anyway. :teacher:

@agamble - we of course wouldn't ask to get on a closed attraction but if they were planning on opening it to guest for testing at some point in the day I was hoping we might be able to get a heads up.

I think we'll see how our week goes and take whatever comes. Maybe there will be some pixie dusk. Who know! :tink:

Sorry to add more rain to your parade, but the Disneyland website shows Ariel's down from the 6th to the 28th. Where did you see that it was re-opening on the 16th?

Where do you see that on the Disneyland website? When I was looking I only see that it's closed for refurbishment. That's why I looked somewhere else for the dates.

If you go to the Disneyland website and click maps, then under "all activities" click attractions, it then gives you a calendar to click on in the right-hand side. It currently only goes through Sept. 13th. Input a date that's during your trip, then look at all the rides on the map. Blue markers are for open rides, grey markers signify a closure. Ariel's is greyed out, so click on it, and it says "closed for refurbishment Sept. 6th, 2016 through Sept. 28th, 2016"

This is kind of funny but I hate that stupid ride. Actually I'm scared of the dang thing. I about had a panic attack last year on Ariel when we got stuck in the underwater scene (didn't know I was that claustrophobic).....I know, yes I'm a grown adult but I'm not riding that again.

Aw man! We went five years ago when they were building this ride and my girls have been looking forward to riding it when we go. We'll be there September 12-17. That's a bummer. :(

What day was that?

I never knew this, thanks for the tip!!

You could also try to play off the carousel as an alternative... It's Ariel's dad's ride, and you get to ride on Ariel's friends... Yeah, i've pulled off a lot of stuff like that on my niece
