Ariel's Grotto for One

OK, I realize this is a very strange thing to do, but I'm attending a conference in Anaheim and will be there by myself for four days before my wife and daughter join me. I'm looking for interesting places to eat that I haven't been to before. My wife doesn't like "fancy eating" so one night I'll be at the Napa Rose and I'm also wondering about Ariel's Grotto. Looking at the menu it says that some items are shared for the whole table. If a single person were to go to Ariel's would they seat me with another party or would I be in splendid isolation with my own platters? Has anyone see this or done this?

While some of the courses are shared, the plate size is proportional to the number of diners.


If you are doing Nap Rose, perhaps the Chef's Table, you may get into a fun group.

I've done Ariel's solo last November.

You'll be placed at a table for two solo. I did receive exactly the same appetizer tower and amount of desserts that we got when I was there with my friend in 2010. That lead to about half of the desserts ending as leftovers. Almost broke my heart.

Honestly, I would wait to do AG for your daughter, depending on her age she might really enjoy dining at AG. It's really not "fancy" either, I'm not sure why your wife wouldn't like it. We love AG, all 4 of us......

Hmmm...Napa Rose is definitely fancy and some really good food. A foodie's paradise. I would also say to check out the Chef's Table, a lot more fun for a solo diner!

Ariel's Grotto isn't really a foodie's kind of place. Instead of AG, I would look into Steakhouse 55 at the DLH or one of the spots in DTD, I really like Jazz Kitchen. And I would definitely enjoy a libation at Trader Sam's at least one of the days!
