Ariels Grotto/ buying character dining tickets

Hi all! I made reservations for Ariel's grotto. When I look for discounted Disney tickets I also see links to buy character dining tickets at a very modest discount. Has anybody used these? What's the difference between character dining and premium character dining ?? Are they worth the hassle? TIA!
