Hi all,

This may be a silly question but I've been wondering since I visited the park last year. From Ariels Grotto (where she sits for photos?) How does she leave there? I mean she can't walk so how? :confused3 I wanted to wait until she left but we wanted to see the parade. Anyone know?

She sits on a seashell, and having been in line when the autographs start, my assumption is that the shell rotates to where no one can see, and then they figure it out from there - sort of a secret passage/door thing.

On our trip last September, my two boys and I had been waiting in a long line on a hot afternoon, and Ariel's handler (whatever they call her CM helper) kept telling the folks in line that Ariel needed to go for a swim soon. I assumed we would wait, but she kept seeing kids, and we kept moving up.

Just as we got to the front of the line, the handler said it a final time, that she was going now for a refreshing swim, but she would be back in 5 minutes. My DS6 looked so disappointed, so I leaned down and asked him, "How do you suppose she's going to get to the water?" He asked what I meant, and I said, "Well, look at her! She doesn't have legs, she has fins! How is she going to get to the water if she can't walk?" His eyes grew big, and he admitted he didn't know.

I told him that since we were at the front of the line, we'd be able to see EVERYTHING, and find out! He was so excited! Sure enough the shell seat in the rock began to turn, carrying the seated Ariel inside the rock. On the other side of the shell was yet another shell seat, this one empty.

Not even five minutes later, puffs of steam or white smoke signaled Ariel's return, and the boys were so ecstatic! The empty chair turned into the rock and out came the shell seat with Ariel. Ariel adjusted her fins and then asked the boys to come up to her. It was so cute, and so magical for them, and that is one of my favorite photos of the boys from our trip. They still talk about Ariel and her spinning shell!
