*$*#*^$!!!! Really? Seriously? Why?
I am a Disney fan. Die hard. However, my dh and ds are huge Harry Potter, Marvel and Lego fans. Huge.
So, in March, we are traveling to Orlando (staying offsite:scared1:) and going to Universal Studios (2 days) and Legoland (1 day).

I have a finely finely detailed plans which involve squeezing in as many Disney days, experiences and ADRs as possible while working around Lego, Hogwarts, and Spiderman. I've left open times for relaxing at the pool and just chilling, but there all sorts of things that are paid for and scheduled that I'm psyched for. And since Legoland doesn't require ADR's and we're only going one day, I hadn't paid too much attention to detail for our day there.

I just tonight checked the hours for Legoland on legoland.com for the day we have rented a car and cleared the slate to drive from Orlando to Legoland and it is CLOSED.
WHAT?!?!?!
How can you close a theme park for 2 days in the middle of the week. Disney never closes.
ARGHH.

It's my fault for not doing detailed Legoland planning and checking the calendar before today, but we've been to Legoland in California so I have some idea of what to expect. I also read several reviews on the DIS and other places. None of them (that I remember) emphasized the "closed midweek" aspect.

I realize that in the grand theme of things, this is a trivial nothing. I can spend the next week trying to rearrange everything. And all will be okay. But, so that I don't scream and wake my sleeping children, I am complaining here. AHHHHHH!

Legoland in March is only closed on March 6 & 7. The next closed date is April 24.

If they want to play with the big boys they have to be open year round. They're in the Orlando theme park market and these parks aren't supposed to close, this isn't a local or regional amusement park, people come to Orlando from all over the world and you just know on one of these closed weekdays there will be a family drive up in their family truckster and be turned away at the gate by a talking Lego guy like in the classic "National Lampoons Vacation".There's even a wood coaster they'll be able to ride with the SWAT team after Mr.Roy Lego doesn't press any charges.

Disney and Universal are supported by massive resort complexes. Legoland is brand new, an hour drive from Orlando, and needs to build a following. I'm sure a lot of people don't even know it exists yet.

It looks like they are trying to avoid losing a ton money, thus the closures during slow times.

And... that is the week of my son's spring break.

Dh thinks it's pretty funny. Even with all my planning and spreadsheets and ADRs made months in advance, I didn't bother to check the calendar for Legoland. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Legoland California and the European parks also close on Tuesday and Wednesday during the non peak months so it's a company wide policy it seems. At least in Florida if they want to reach the level of popularity as the other parks in Orlando they have to open every day.

Have to agree with Doom1001 to an extent, you can't close during March in greater Orlando. Might let it slide in January, but not during Spring Break.

March 6 & 7 is very early for Spring break, in fact it is actually still Winter. Because Legoland is open every day until 2 weeks after Easter, they must have thought they had all Spring breaks covered. You must be in a very unusual school district.

My son goes to private school. I agree it is an early break to be considered "spring" (which is why we pulled the kids out of school last year for a week in May to do to WDW).
I live in a large city and all the private schools have this as their spring break (as do most colleges). The kids also finish their year in May, so it is in the middle of their Jan - May school session.

In any case, I think that there will continue to be families like me who don't consider that Legoland might periodically close during the week and be caught of guard as well. At least I checked and we didn't just drive all the way there to find it was closed.

That is a very good thing! Legoland's biggest hurdle will be it's location. It seems to take forever to get there from the Interstate. It's really out in the middle of nowhere. They're going to have to figure out a way to entice people to drive so far out of the way, if they're going to have a chance to succeed. Shuttles from the Orlando area hotels will be a must. (I don't know if they're doing that already.) I'll be amazed if they survive for many years given the location. Cypress Gardens was a great park. It just wasn't worth the drive.
