Winka....when I got home and went on the internet, incredifind had taken over my home page AGAIN!!! I was able to get to the search function, searched for CWshredder, and downloaded it. CW shredder also suggested I download anything new from Microsoft, which I did (for some reason it would only download and install 5 out of 8 updates???)

CW shredder ran. Restarted my computer and my Yahoo home page came up this time!!!

OMG, I sure hope all of you have good luck getting rid of this pain in the rump! I don't get it! If this is causing such a terrible pain for sooooooo many people, why is there not some way to get rid of these things...I mean, why are they allowed to keep running? Isn't there something that can be done to "banish" things like this and not let them continue to operate? I know it sounds like a first grade questions, but I just don't get it.

I think perhaps, maybe, possibly, I might have the problem fixed. What a day with this. Have no idea how it happened. But what a headache.

I also wish there was something that could be done to stop this, come on Bill Gates step up to the plate.

I just want to thank you guys on this thread for helping me to get rid of my JUNK! I read this at work and couldn't wait to try it out at home.

How NICE to not get that darned UBid pop up everytime I logged into eBay!!

Your brwser has been hijacked.
Try this only if you don't mind changing things in you cpu.

You'll need to edit your Registry for this tip.

1. Changes to the Registry are permanent. Back it up or you'll be outta luck if something goes wrong.

2. Navigate to this string:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel

If the keys for Internet Explorer and Control Panel are not present, add them manually.

1. Right-click the Microsoft key folder and choose New Folder.
2. Name it Internet Explorer.
3. Right-click the Internet Explorer key folder and choose New Folder.
4. Name it Control Panel.

3. Right-click the Control Panel key folder and choose "new DWORD value." Rename the value "Homepage."

4. Right-click the Homepage value, choose Modify, and change the value from "0" to "1."

Now go into your Internet Explorer options. Your homepage is locked and unmodifiable! BE very Carefull when you do this,you can screw up your sytem,but this will take care of the problem.

I just wanted to mention that the Hijackthis program that is mentioned is incredibly powerful...but incredibly dangerous.
I have never seen it fail at getting rid of any of these including the ones that adaware and spybot won't. But I have also seen it totally wreck a bunch of computers. As the poster stated you MUST post what you find and let an expert look at it.

Also, anytime you fiddle with the registry, make real sure you know what you are doing. it is like doing brain surgery on your PC.

I considered regedit but thankfully HJT made this a little "easier". True, HJT/CSW is powerful but its thorough...post to their forum first and in the case that you have something rare and new, definitely send them a copy before you delete so they can examine and help future sufferers of the same variants.

It's an all out war out there.

It is a far better alternative to raw editing of the registry as long as you follow the procedure and post!
BTW in the instructions for editing the registry, you can export registry key's and hives prior to editing. In case of a mistake they can be imported back in. Very wise precaution to take
