Aretha Franklin's performance...

Was anyone else squeamish that her 'girls' would surely escape their rather too-small moorings :scared: ? My DD & I were watching yelling at the TV "DON'T MOVE YOUR ARMS...aaaaauuuuuuuggggghhhh...No no no! DON'T!"

YES!!!!:rotfl2:

Just curious for those of you that feel the need to step on Aretha, are you aware of her civil rights history?

If not, I encourage you to pick up a history book, quick and do some research.

I thought Aretha's jazz and soul rendition was fantastic.:thumbsup2 It was appropriate (IMO) for the occasion. I wasn't wild about that particular hat but I thought she carried it well.

OK I am confused. :confused3 What does that have to do with her hat and her singing?

I guess it is something that I cannot explain then. When she walked out there to sing, I felt the channeling of MLK.
It didn't matter what she sang or what she wore.

It is something that is intangible.

I never liked Aretha. Her singing, anyway. I know nothing about the woman herself.

So, I didn't like her...like I always don't like her.

But I loved the hat. ::yes::

We were yelling at her, too!! Has that woman ever worn a dress in public that doesn't make you scared about her girls? Anyway, we were too pre-occupied with yelling to hear her sing. (Maybe that's why she wears clothes like that? Men won't care about her voice and women are too busy thinking 'don't raise your arms' to listen closely?)

love Aretha, liked the song, liked the hat (felt both the hat and the rendition were very appropriate!), and loved the moment over all!:)

Ya she didn't sound as good as in the past.
I think alicia keys is taking over the title... well maybe not the title but the position.

Mikeeee

It was bad. I didn't really have an opinion of the woman until last year when she got all upset at Beyonce for calling Tina Turner "the Queen", it made her sound very full of herself.

When I saw the hat :scared: then this very round woman trying to squeeze between a couple seats to get to the microphone, I cringed:scared: When she started to sing, I left the room. IT WAS AWFUL!!:scared:

I intend no disrespect but - how old are you?

*If* Ms. Franklin went on American Idol or any of the other talent competitions on TV (America's Got Talent, etc.) and the judges somehow didn't know who she was, would she make it to the "Hollywood :mic: round"?
