Aren't we glad we don't have to worry about the Best Rate Program

I used the AP rate a lot to stay for weekends and save points.

If a friend wants to split the room after I book it, it's a $50 fee to get them added to the reservation, which won't help save much of anything.

That's a very good question to ask that I don't think has been addressed yet. However, the way I'd get around it would be to just add the friend when you arrived at the resort.

I think in the end, things will all work out for the best with this new program. My thinking is that Disney is bungling the implementation and communication with this program. That's one area in which Disney has been VERY consistant in.

Now, why don't we have a jaded smilie to insert?

It's beginning to sound like the airlines, isn't it?
Actually, is it beginning to sound like the cruise lines. They've had similar policies for many years, and are making their policies even more stringent this year.

I sure am glad I have my DVC rooms and don't have to worry about wading thru and figuring out all this new AP Best Guest stuff..

I'm one of those weird people (around here) who use their points for weekends and don't ever think about cash rates. How long ago did they change this program?

I'm not positive, but I think the news came out late last week. It's a very new change. If you want to read some "panic" and "oh woe is me, everything is broke and I hate change" threads, pop on over to the Resort Codes and Rates Forum. Reminds me of the reactions to ME, free dining and the MYW ticketing system and just about evey other change Disney announces.

FWIW, I think we should wait a bit for the dust to settle - other than the requirment for a non-refundable deposit (which seems reasonable to me), this could be a very good deal for many passholders. It certainly will help Disney better sort out occupancy farther ahead and it will almost surely cut down the number of calls to CRO/WDWTC and thus the number of CMs needed to staff it.

Best wishes-

I agree, Carol. The calls from a lot of the AP people must drive CRO nuts! They seem to think nothing of calling almost daily and/or changing their dates/resorts numerous times. I'm sure the non-refundable deposit and $50 change fee will slow that down QUITE a bit. Especially the $50 fee. This might actually lead to more efficient, timely discounting in the future.

And I see Disney has finally required an adult pass to make a ressie.

RweTHEREyet, thanks for the info on POP. I suspected as much -- a friend stayed there this spring for 2 nights and said it was fine. She saved her "big bucks" for a room at Universal because it got them "front of the line" access there after they left WDW. Anyhow, she felt Pop was nice enough, although I had to laugh this week because I mentioned the lake to her and she said "What lake? There is no lake at Pop!" Not sure how they missed it... Anyhow, we have enough points for the weekend, it's the SECOND weekend that breaks me! We drive a long way to get to WDW so I like to stay awhile... That's where the cash nights come in handy. I can either join AAA and settle for a small discount or try POP!

Can someone fill me in on what the AP Best Guest stuff is? I'm reading these posts, but not clearly getting it.

I fear that my efforts to save points may now result in my having to spend a night or two at... GULP... the VALUE RESORTS! EEEK!
I thought you couldn't spend your pts. for the value resorts????

Colleen is talking about paying cash at a Value resort to save points on weekends. The points costs for a room at DVC are roughly double on Friday and Saturday nights, so many DVCers pay cash for those nights to save the points.

[EDIT: If you click on the DVC Points Charts at the top of the page, you'll see what I'm talking about.]
