Can anyone tell me aout the area around Kent State University in Ohio? At least one and maybe both of my girls may be moving there next year.

My niece just graduated from there, its a collage town around that there is alot of small cities and suburbs of Akron, its a nice place

There are lots of nice communities around Kent State University (including the town of Kent). Plus there is lots to see and do. If you have any specific questions, send me a PM and I'll try to answer them for find the answers for you.

Spent the first 8 years of my married life in the Akron area. Very nice people, geography very pretty, easy to get around, little crime. We moved back to IL because my family is here...if I could have moved them there, I would have!

Nice area. Relatively away from the chaos of the city, but close enough to access it when you want. Canton, Akron and Cleveland have a lot to offer. We go up to play at least five or six times a year, and love it!

i grew up in a little 'burg' right next to kent, PM me and i can probably answer some specific questions!

Don't really have any specific questions yet. I can't say why they are moving yet but it is a wonderful opportunity for both of them if it works out that they both go. Older one is a definate.
How is the atmosphere for musicians in the area? They are both violist/violinists.

We just moved from the Stow/Munroe Falls area in June. We lived across the street from a Kent professor. It is a nice area. Lots of great shopping. ;) That's what I miss the most.

It is a great area for musicians! Both Kent and Akron U have music schools and orchestras. There would be opportunities for them to perform in different groups as well.

PM me if you have any more questions. :)

And the biggest benefit-They'd only be 30 mins from the Towncrier's and John-Con! :)

Talkinghands,

I have lived in the area my whole life - in fact I drove by Kent State yesterday. This is a beautiful area of Ohio, great parks, shopping and entertainment. The cost of living is one of the lowest in the country and I think that your daughters will find that the people are very nice. I do quite a bit a traveling for work, so I can appreciate where I am. However, it is COLD in the winter - nice snow storms off of Lake Erie.

Also, thanks for the cruise trip report. We are going in January and I love reading and dreaming of Florida in Jan.

Feel free to ask any other questions about Ohio. Will your daughter be going to school there?

Julie

Yes they will be going to school there is all works out. Oldest is a grad student in viola performance and the younger is a violist as well but majoring in ethnomusicaology

kent is a great school and the area is charming! lots of diversity and many cultural opportunities for musicians, artists, etc.

i grew up in rootstown and family was from stow; most of them live in cuyahoga falls now! it really is a small world!
