are you the sort of person who can pretty much fall asleep anywhere?

Absolutely not. I can’t sleep in a car at all when my husband is driving, or anybody else for that matter. Can’t sleep on a plane either. My husband on the other hand can fall asleep anywhere.

No. I really can't be sitting up, so no on planes, etc. If I can lay down a bit, I can manage.

Yes. All I need to fall asleep is to feel like it's a safe place (if in public) and to know that nobody immediately needs, wants or expects anything from me (public or private).

Yep...especially any mode of transportation. Puts me right to sleep. Also never had trouble sleeping in a hotel or at someone else's house. My mom, for example, can never really sleep well the first night she stays somewhere (vacation or even visiting me or my brother in the guest room). It's my special skill LOL.

Nope! In fact, when people get into resort discussions and say it’s “only a place to shower and sleep,” I have to remind them that some people are more sensitive sleepers than others.

Nope. I’m lucky if I can fall asleep in my own bed. Hubby, on the other hand, starts snoring as soon as his head hits the pillow.

Yup.
25 years of working 11 pm to 7 am and sleeping during the day and 13 years of working 3 am to 1130 am and going to bed at 7pm.
Even slept through them putting a new roof on my house.

I can sleep anywhere. When my MIL had heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic, we rented a 1br suite that slept six. DH and I ended up on the sofa bed, which was a double bed and in not great shape. I ended up sleeping for 3 nights in a wing-backed chair with my lower legs on the bottom of the sofabed. I can sleep ANYwhere!

Sure. I can sleep on planes even though it's noisy. I've slept overnight on a train where there was a reasonable recline. I did have troubles trying to sleep on a train ride where I knew I was going to transfer at about midnight and then get to my destination at about 3 AM. There was no recline to those seats and obviously I was trying to sleep well before my usual bedtime. In that case it was hard to sleep on the bus because I was worried about missing my stop. Bus drivers tend to also just wake everyone up (with stop calls) rather than maybe have seat checks like you'd see on a train.

In the past year+ I've been on (I think) 7 overnight buses between northern and southern California. I was able to sleep although I was constantly being awakened by the driver. But there is something to be said about saving a hotel night stay with long distance transportation. The biggest issue is legroom. All of those were in Volvo buses with microscopic legroom. But at least once I sat in the emergency exit row with 6 feet to the next seat and that made it easier to sleep.

No, however, I need certain things to fall asleep. I absolutely cannot sleep with the fan on. That noise is unbearable, and I don’t understand how some people can’t sleep without the noise of a fan. Sometimes I want the air but not the dreaded noise.

I personally listen to sleep music. It helps me fall asleep.
