When I went to go to the grocery store this morning I saw real big black cat sitting by our parking lot. :earseek:
All I could think of was that I hope the cat does not get hurt with Halloween coming up. Then I thought about how big and black it was. That got me thinking about superstitions, as I could not recall exactly what a black cat means. Personally I think it was a wizard like Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter!! LOL

So, are you superstitious, and if so what are you superstitious about??

No, but my co-worker fell in love with a black cat at the humane society and they wouldn't let her adopt the cat because it was October. They said a lot of people try to adopt a black cat in October for the sole purpose of torturing/killing it because of superstitions.

My co-worker had to have a home visit from the humane society before they finally let her have the cat. That's been 2 years ago and she's still spooked around this time of year - she keeps an extra eye out so that her cat doesn't ever go outside at all during this month.

I am a bit. I can not wear anything of my teams while watching the game at home! Only at the stadium can I wear something of theirs. If I am home, I must not have anything on - not even Underwear!!!

 So they'd rather the cat stay in the shelter? I hope it was a no-kill shelter. I've heard of pets being euthanized because some shelters keep rejecting people who want to adopt them.

One family I know of wanted to adopt a dog and because they had another dog who was a little shy when they took her in to meet the new dog, they refused to let them adopt.

No one else adopted the dog and she wound up being killed.
 They wouldn't even give these folks a chance! It made me furious.

I understand needing to screen adopting families but why not screen this woman to make sure she's not some loon who is going to kill the cat and then give the cat a good home when they find out she's not a loon.

:sad2:

Not really superstitious, although, I have been known to knock on wood occasionally ;)

Nope. And I don't believe in ghosts, either. I have religious beliefs that counter superstitions and ghosts.....but I don't think we want to go there......

It was a no-kill shelter. It's the humane society of Akron and they're no-kill. What they wanted to do was have my co-worker wait until November to pick up the kitty. She couldn't do that as she totally wanted this cat. Another reason they finally let her was that she had gotten another cat from them before.

The shelter's policy was that they suspend adoptions of black cats during the month of October for fear that these cats end up in the wrong hands.

No, but if one more person asks me today if I'm going to get the flu shot, and my answer has been consistently no (since I've had the flu only once in my 34 years), and then I get the flu, then I'm going to become superstitious real fast.;)

Not generally, but like Nickunited, I have things I do when my team is playing (like him, I'm a Mets fan). In 1986, when they won the World Series I had a lucky sweater. I wore it to a game they won, and I had it on when they clinched the NL East. But when my sister wore it, they lost. So I had to wear it for the luck to flow to them. And yes, I had it on when they won it! It didn't fit anymore and that's why they lost in 2000. But I can't throw it away. But considering that they been so bad the last few years, maybe I should!

Yup....but I only believe in ones related to the weather :)

we have three cat at home, two of them are black, and they are well guarded around Halloween. It's funny to watch little kids reactions when they see one of our cats in the window.

Nope, not at all. But we do keep our kitties inside during this time of year. It's just to dangerous for them out there with some of the crazies.

Yes. I still can't throw a penny away; somewhere along the line, I got the notion that if you threw a penny away, you'd end up poor. And it wasn't "A penny saved is a penny earned." ;)
