Are you stuck living somewhere you hate?

I love where I am. It was a BIG culture shock when we first moved here, but we've assimmilated pretty well and it's home now. I did know a woman who moved here from Salt Lake City and she took every opportunity to slam the entire state of North Carolina. The people were nasty, the food was nasty, the weather was nasty, etc. Eventually she moved back to SLC.

I only dislike where I live during the winter.

You said it all! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

All of mine and Dh's family lives very close to us and we like that. During the summer it is a fine place to live. Our house and city are nice too (but I am sure there are places I would like as much or better both in and out of MI.) I would like it if Detroit was a better City (like Chicago) but I think it is on the way up at least.

If it wasn't for our family DH and I would have moved somewhere warmer for sure. Now DH's job is so good that moving would most likely result in a pay cut and that would be hard.

I would love to move to Virginia Beach VA. My dad was raised there, all of his family is still there and it very much feels like home to me. Closer to Fla and WD, but still has "seasons" to a certain extent.

well, I've lived in the same general area (20 minute radius) for my entire life. Do I love it? Nope... but I dont hate it either...not really stuck I guess

Had I not met my ex husband and had my DD's I would not be here today....but I am....and until my youngest is off in college, I will be here. I can't take them away from their father, even though I would love to move to Arizona or New Mexico......eh.... nope can't do it.

I do have wonderful summers, beautiful falls, and wicked winters, especially since we're a ski/board family... the kids have plenty of open spaces to play, run, ride dirtbikes etc. And the best part is we don't have suburbs :cool1: Cause we don't have cities here!

So for another 8 years, I will be in Vermont, or at least 20 minutes from here, and then I'll be movin on west :)

I live in Virginia Beach and I hate hate hate it. I grew up here and use to like it. It is too cold for me here and I am sick of these blasted jets flying over our house. The jets used to be ok until they brought the big boys in. Big mortgage, not much money for anything else., etc.

I read your post after making mine where I said I wanted to move to VB!

I do know what you mean about that jets. I live down the street from the train tracks, so I am kind of used to that kind of noise. My uncle says everybody just pauses when the jets go by, and then picks up without missing a beat when they are gone. It is rather over powering. Still I really liked the area and since I have so much family there, it still feels like home. :thumbsup2

Yup - Live in Massachusetts and I hate it. If we could, we'd move to Florida today. We can't. My step-son's father lives in Mass., and has visitation. Even if we could move, we wouldn't, as it wouldn't be fair to my step-son. The day he graduates high school, we be out of here.

Funny, I'm in Florida and would love to be in Massachusetts. Wanna switch? ;)

But seriously, I hate living here and will be moving north as soon as I finish school. I only stay because in-state tuition is ridiculously cheap.

I can't wait to live somewhere where it gets truly :cold: in the winter.

Stuck for now due to school ... this close to graduation it's not worth it to switch. But we can't wait to get out of this flat, ugly, boring, dangerous city. I've lived all over and only had one other place I hated (with a lot of justification - small town with small-town cliques and nothing to do but drink and get pregnant ... and that was in jr high) so I know it's not just me. There's some really nice parts of TX, Dallas just ain't one of 'em. I do like the weather, though. I've got the window open to catch the night breeze and I'm sitting in a light sweater and jeans. Lovely. :) I so want a nice little suburban or even slightly rural place in a college town with room for a garden and pets. I DON'T want to live in another apartment with the constant fear that my car will get broken into or be unable to walk a freaking block without being asked for a handout. I'm tired of city life... or at least THIS city life!

I know it could be worse, though. It could be snowing. :rotfl:

I don't *hate* where I live, but I'm not completely happy. What's keeping me here? Well family is here, and with grandma 80 and showing early signs of Alzheimers I'd feel guilty leaving.

But also, cost of living is pretty low here and I started a job last year that's giving me a lot of great experience. I was hired for billing and accounting (two degrees and neither are anywhere near related to that, LOL!) and they've crosstrained me in one other area already (that I've taken over completely since I'm more efficient) and this week I started crosstraining in something else (with my 2nd raise in less than a year to compensate!) I want to stay at this job for at least a couple more years, long enough for it to look good on my resume. I'm getting professional experience in totally different areas which should help me get a better job or at least give me lots of options when I start researching relocation.

I'm here, hate it, can't wait to get out

Reasons (in no particular order):
1. People don't know how to drive
2. it never snows here. It snows all around us but we never get anything
3. Nothing to do.
4. People.
5. No good ski resorts
6. so much more

I don't know where you are in MD, but I agree with you on #1 if you are talking about Baltimore. :headache: My dh works there. I go onto the Pulaski Hwy and bam I almost got into 2 accidents. I merge - or try to merge - onto 695 and whoa I see a guy behind me race to merge into my lane. One day we are at a mall and we walk out of Sears in the evening. Vroom, 2 guys in a compact car go whizzing by right in front of us without stopping. ugh

(My dh may be accepting a job in Fairfax so I get to deal with other nightmare traffic/driving. lol)

I live in the Peninsula area of Virginia, also known as Hampton Roads. I like it all right, but nothing compares to Florida or Hawaii, that's for sure. :beach:

Traffic is a nightmare for those who commute through the tunnel, but that doesn't apply to me because I don't commute. School system is great. I go to a community college and the cost of cc's and uni's are affordable for residents. Taxes are climbing, though. My neighborhood has a lot of grumpy people so it sometimes sucks. Kids and I do like our friends and schools, though. Lots of kid friendly activities and volunteering opportunities for us make it nice, too.

I'm counting down the days, baby! lol

I am not happy where we live--I hate the climate and many other things. BUT, we have lots of good things--kids love their school, Dh and I have jobs with really flexible hours (probably the top "perq" of our jobs), our housing payment is very low, etc. If I could transport our lives to a different state, I would have done it years ago! Alas, I am a chicken, and I am so afraid we wouldn't have as good of a life somewhere else, that I stay here and suffer. I really do want to move, I'm just too afraid.:sad2:

we hate it here. s e arkansas is dieing out. yet the cost of living keeps going up, we are still kinda stuck here, trying to let dd finish high school, but after she graduatees, we are most likely headed east to ga or south carolina. maybe even northern fla.

I was stuck in NJ for five of the longest years ever recorded. It was a huge mistake moving there, and it took us a long time to escape. It's hard when two people need to find jobs in the same new place.

I'm happy where I am now, but sympathize with all of you who are stuck.
