Yes, but its odd, sometimes I could be the life of the party and the next day be afraid to open my mouth

I don't know you or anything but maybe you are an ambivert (midway between an introvert and extrovert).

Im not shy, but I am selectively social by choice... introverted. But somewhat like you, I am mostly to myself or close friends/family but will randomly get the urge to go party...

Yes I am, not to mention that I have social anxiety, however I am also very much an extrovert and love to be around people. BTW, my friends laugh at the idea that I'm shy, but that just means that I'm properly medicated. :lmao:

Well , I don't call myself shy.. I call myself "reserved". I mean, I am not afraid to talk to people when I need too..BUT.. I am NOT the life of the party..and normally I dont talk to new people first. THOUGH..once I get to know somebody and consider you my friend, I will talk your ear off;)

wonder what the physiology is to this

I'm the same way. In my case however, the physiology is called alcohol! :)

If I have a glass or two of wine in me, I become much more outgoing and eloquent! I do community theater with the most outgoing people in the world, and this strategy has saved me from sitting alone in the corner at many a cast party! ;-)

Yes...this describes me perfectly as well! I have a hard time making friends, but once I am comfortable with someone, I'm totally fine.

Careful, though, this strategy ended me in recovery. :lmao:

Yes i am and it drives my family crazy. And its bad enough that if i am at a store and can not reach something on a shelf, i will walk away and not purchase it, then approach someone and ask for help.

I am shy, but apparently it comes across as being stuck up. I have a little bit of social anxiety and I get really uncomfortable if I'm spending time with people I don't know well. I prefer to spend time with my one or two close friends than a room full of "associates." Although I am fine with perfect strangers, go figure!

ETA: "Reserved," that's a much better term for me!

I'm the same way. Unfortunately, it seems to be getting worse the older I get, whereas you'd think it would be the opposite. I feed bad for my husband because he is very extroverted and loves to be around people. He just takes it in stride though and doesn't seem to be too bothered by it.
