Are you scared to fly?

I watched this movie last night called Red-Eye, which I don't know how many have seen it, but most of it takes place on an airplane.
What scared me more than the actual plot of the movie was that it showed the plane taking off and all the turbulance and bouncing around that was going on.
I realized as I was watching this that my stomach was in knots. I thought about the last time I flew (summer 2003) and how stressed out I was during any sort of "rough air", and I realized I hate to fly. It scares the crap outta me! I don't know if I ever want to fly again. It's not about terrorists or bombs or anything like that. I'm just scared of crashing period. :(

Yes, I'm a nervous flyer. Pretty ironic that I'd marry a pilot, isn't it? :rotfl2:

I'm not really scared to fly but I do get nervous before going on the plane. I don't like it when they take off and the turbulance. I also get air sick so that doesn't help, but to get anywhere we need to fly so if you are scared of flying, you will not be going to anywhere new.

I love flying. You have a better chance of getting killed in a car crash going to work then crashing in an airplane.

That's why all the airports have cocktail lounges :teeth:

That would work for me if only I was a drinker. Oh well. :teeth:

Sometimes skills need to be learned.

The worst for me is the altitude descending before landing. I hate that dropping in the pit of your stomach feeling. And yes, you better believe I'm not a TOT fan either! :teeth:

I used to be terrified of flying - so much that I grounded myself for more than 12 years. I got a new job that I loved that required me to fly all over the country so I had to get over that fear QUICK. I did alot of online research and stumbled on a fear of flying website with a message board that is great! They have commercial pilots on the message board to answer your questions and everything.

www.takingflight.us is the website and www.takingflight.us/forums is the message board.

cynsaun - send your DH over there to help out! They are a great group!! :)

Flying is easy. I don't really understand the fears anymore than boarding a train or entering you car.

I fly to Europe at least 4 times per year plus probably 20,000 miles in the US.

I have absolutely no fear to fly. I just think the entire thing is a general pain in the butt.

Maybe it's time for our company to buy a Gulfstream for me? :rotfl:

I am. I haven't flown since 2000...which was pre-kids and definitely not with the kids. I think its been worse for me since actually having the kids. But, I will need to get over it at some time....we plan a trip to California for 2007 and thats just a little too far for us to drive (30 hrs).

I love to travel and I travel for work on occassion. I'm always afraid to fly. I thank god and the pilot everytime we land.

I'll have to admit that I'm a little apprenhensive when flying. However, this doesn't stop me from going on vacations. The quicker I can get there, the better! :earboy2:

I am a nervous flyer, won't say it's fear, but really not my favorite thing in the world. I hate takeoffs and landings, I don't like turbulance (a little is ok, but not the big stuff) I just don't like the fact that I am so far up in the air and I have no control over what will happen. I do try to think that the pilots don't want an accident/crash to happen as much as the passengers don't, so that helps me a bit.

::yes:: I love it, I'm like a little kid looking at the window on takeoff! :)

I knew a couple of pilots who were roommates that were very very heavy drinkers and that always freaks me out thinking back on them and hoping they don't work for the airline I choose!
I don't like flying, it makes me nervous, but I will fly to get where I want to go...no sense in driving 20 hours when a plane can get you there in 2-3!

I HATE to fly but will put up with the just-under 3 hour flight to Orlando. I have found that since the planes put in the tv screens with headphones I am much more relaxed. Instead of being afraid of every little noise and bump, I can zone out with HGTV! :)

Don't know if MELK will be on this thread, but the flight out of Boston we were on together was THE WORST I have ever been on - lots & lots of turbulence and then we had to circle over Orlando for a while due to the cross winds. Never knew you could get nauseous (sp?) circling in an airplane...ugh!

And then of course when we were finally ready to land I kept wondering why NOW was a good time when just minutes before it was too dangerous. More than just a few of us cheered when the plane finally landed.

Oh, and I will NEVER watch that movie as I certainly don't need anything else to worry about. :)

I feel the same way MUFFYCAT! I love to fly too! Although I like landings as well, I particularly enjoy takeoffs! I never get bored of looking out the window, and for some strange reason, I love those small drops that you feel in the pit of your stomach! (I love TOT!!!)
