Are you "punished" for missing a FastPass+ reservation?

Hello!

We are headed to DW this coming week and made our FP+ reservations. I wanted to go to Toy Story Mania our first day and one of the only options left that we could fit into our schedule was later in the day. To go along with that, we needed to make two other selections. By the time we get checked into our hotel after the flight, these will have likely passed their time window.

Am I punished in any way for missing a particular FP+? Like, are we able to still use our TSM one, even though we may not make one or even both of our prior selections? How about using a standard kiosk to get a fourth, can we still get that one later in the day even if one or two of them weren't used earlier on?

Thank you all in advance for this FP+ noobie!

If you "miss" a FP+ reservation and you want to go get a 4th, you have to go to a CM with an ipad to help you cancel your missed FPs. You can't do it by yourself at a kiosk. This happened to my party last week when one person in our group of 3 skipped Enchanted Tales with Belle bc she had to take a work phone call. When we hopped to Epcot an hour later and tried to get our 4th FP at a kiosk, I couldn't do anything for her without a CM and an ipad.

That seems like a glitch. We have missed fastpasses and not had to have a CM cancel it to get a 4th.

No issues OP. A lot of people skip ones they get stuck with instead of just cancelling it.

You are not punished, they simply expire at the end of the time frame for each FP+. Once all 3 are used (or time has expired) you can go to a kiosk and schedule your 4th FP+.

Maybe it's bc we park hopped and our 4th was at Epcot, while our first 3 were in MK?

Still should just allow you to get a 4th. The window should have also been up since you said it was an hour later that you were at Epcot.

Have you ever seen the stockades in Liberty Square?

Well, they don't put you in those for missing a FP+. The only punishment is that you lose that FP+.

If it was a hard to get ride and you admit to missing it on these boards you might be in some danger... :rolleyes1

Are you aware that you can change the times of your fastpasses? Even after the time has passed, you can update the fastpasses you have for a different time... I've done that many times.

If you did not use the FP you can still reschedule it, even after the window. You can do this through the app with no need to go to a kiosk. In the case of a park hop, then yes, you have to see a kiosk because you would only be allowed to reschedule your missed one at the same park it was originally for.

You are not punished for missing FP+ window. Think of them as a perk. If you use them, great .. but if you can't make it, no major loss.

Consider this bit of advice though: .. if you MISS a fast pass (or a line is so short you don't need the Fast Pass and you don't get your band scanned) .. you can simply then use the MDE app (not a kiosk) to reschedule that FP for any time later in the day (based on availability) .. essentially giving you the ability to schedule your fourth Fast Pass via the app.

I stumbled upon this "trick" at DHS a few weeks ago.
Not knowing what else to get Fast Passes for (with a group of toddlers that may be "done" by early afternoon) .. I had a Fast Pass scheduled for Disney Junior - 9:30 AM. (The tiering system stinks at DHS .. I would have much rather had Great Movie Ride or Rock-n-Roller coaster instead of a show). There was hardly anyone there for the show that early, so we just walked up into the Standby line without getting our bands scanned.

I noticed later that day that I could use the MDE app to reschedule that unused Fast Pass! So I used it to just grab Fantasmic Fast Passes. When it looked like we wouldn't make it that late I switched it to Rock-N-Roller coaster .. (which got me around the tiering system) .. so my three Fast Passes that day were (that I used) were:
1) TSMM
2) Star Tours (I didn't need this one either .. even at noon .. the line was only 10 minutes long) .. but I scanned my band anyway. In Hindsight I should have just walked into Standby for this one.
3) Rockin' Rollercoaster (I just went by myself while my wife watched my son)

So I was able to get two of my three "Tier 1" fast passes that day without ever having to go to a kiosk simply because I didn't get my band scanned on the first fast pass of the day. (Again .. this was a very low crowd day it appeared).

It's nothing special, and you are still limited by availability THAT DAY, but it does save you some time going to a kiosk.

SO .. TLDR:
If you Fast Passed something and it looks like you won't need it (low crowds, short standby line) ... use the standby line (and don't get your band scanned) and then use that unused Fast Pass and reschedule it (via MDE app) for later in the day. This gives you the ability of getting a "4th" fast pass without going to a kiosk.

Interesting potential work around for the Tiering situation. I wonder it was that let you reschedule, allowing RnRC?

Yeah, I don't know. All I know is, a CM manning the kiosk area watching what I was doing told me I had to see the ipad CM to make the change. Maybe it was just a glitch that day bc I definitely wasn't the only one having to talk to a CM to cancel a FP. The window was most definitely over for the ETWB FP.

I am guessing that once you are in the park the day-of, the tiering probably doesn't matter since it is based on availability of that day. Or maybe the tiering didn't matter since I "rescheduled" to RocknRoller coaster hours AFTER I had already completed TSMM .. *shrug*.
Either way .. I didn't have any restrictions rescheduling that "missed" fast pass all day. It was quite handy actually.

Basically my general FP+ strategy has been:
-Make all Fast passes before lunch (12:30-1:30 PM) (making sure I grab at least one of the big headliners that probably will be gone before the day-of) .. so I have more flexibility in the day for the 4th (or more) fast passes.

So I wonder if a general strategy could be (if you want to have a more flexible day and you aren't worried about some rides being "sold out" before the day you are in the park) would be to do what I did (accidentally):

Schedule a super early Fast Pass (starting at 9:00 - 9:30) and just skip it since you probably won't need it in the first hour of the park opening. Skipping it then gives you an unused Fast Pass as early as 10:00-10:30 AM that you can reschedule for something later that day .. thus letting you essentially schedule your 4th fast pass hours before anyone else normally could without going near a kiosk.

Thank you everyone!

I'm not looking to necessarily reschedule the missed ones, as they were "thrown ins" that I've never had to use a FastPass in the past for (like Indiana Jones).

So about that forth, is THAT the limit per day, or can you go to maybe 5 or 6 in another park after hopping around? I'm all about using more in another park later on in the day and it was great to hear you can do, hopefully we don't run into any problems like needing a Cast Member to cancel a previous one for us. Sounds like a minor hassle, though.

1. No.
2. Yes. There are NO limits on the number per day,
except:
A. the park will close, eventually
B.the available FPs for certain rides will run out for that day.
3. You won't.
That info from a CM was simply wrong. (Imagine that!) ;)

Wow, I didn't even know you could do this. I thought all your FP's had to be in the same park. I may be able to put this to use.

So after your first 3 you can schedule a 4th in a different park correct? Do you have to go to a kiosk to do it and does it have to be in a kiosk at the park you are hopping to or can it be one at the park you're already at?

Throwing it out there I do believe GR may be able to schedule you FP at another park. I am not 100% sure on that but if the line is short it is worth popping your head in and trying. I know concierge at club lounges can book your fourth for you. We did it when staying at beach club.
