Are you proud of your heritage?

I'm Irish and Welsh on my Dad's side, and a mix of things on my mom's. I wouldn't say I'm "proud" of it exactly, as I didn't really do anything for it, but I definitely enjoy it (especially on St. Patrick's Day ☘️ :drinking1:laughing: )

I am proud of my aunt and uncle, who have both done a lot of genealogy research and record keeping work, which is why I know what I do about our family.

I don't know - I mean, yeah, sure, I guess so, but I don't know that I would ascribe the word "pride" to it. To me, one should be proud of the things they have accomplished - it's not about what you are, it's about what you do. Anyway, I don't really ascribe a lot of importance to genetic lineage or even groups like nationalities or cultures. I guess I'm too much of a hippie-dippy "It's a Small World" type.

To me, it’s weird to be proud of something you had no say over.

That's kind of how I feel. I mean, it's not like one should be ashamed of their heritage, etc. but I'm not sure that "proud" is the right word. That applies to a lot of groupings or whatever. I do tend to think that a lot of people really focus on what they are rather than who they are. It's something that is a little hard to put into words, but just a feeling I have.

I'm indifferent. I recognize that I am extraordinarily lucky to be born into the circumstances that I was born into, but I didn't have anything to do with it so I don't feel like I really have a lot to be explicitly proud of.

I know, that’s what I’m saying is weird. How can you be proud of something you didn’t control? It’s like being proud of your shoe size.

Well, you know what they say about guys with big feet...they wear big shoes! :duck:

I say this as a proud size 12, who often has trouble finding my size. Interestingly, I can often find bigger, but 12's man...they are just never around.

Well, I have to admit I do feel a tiny bit (very tiny) left out during the months honoring the Heritage of a certain group because my "Heinz 57" heritage has no such month. And don't get me started on St. Patrick's Day when everyone is suddenly Irish. The flip side, at least corned beef goes on sale around that time.

Most people don't really know what their heritage is, but are usually proud of what they think they are most of. lol
I'm mostly German & Irish, & i guess proud to be? (never been to Europe, but id definitely put both countries on my list if i went)

I think everyone should do it, just to find out or confirm what they think they know.

Today's earlier thread reminded me of just the heritage in general. I thought the map thing on ancestry.com is pretty cool.
