Excuse me while I rant

I'm happily discussing my up and coming trip with a friend at work, when a colleague(female) at the next desk says, why does a 43 yr old women such as yourselve have to go to disney year after year. What? Is it any of your business where i go on holiday, I don't see you putting your hand in your pocket and paying for it.

I was just asking she says, you have to admit your a bit old for all this mickey mouse stuff. Old, I did'nt know there was an age limit to go to disney i said - I'm sure theres not but it must be embrassing for you to tell people that your going on holiday to see mickey mouse.

I'm not embrassed I go where I want to, I'm the one doing extra hours at work to pay for it. And it obvious to me you don't know what your talking about. I suggest you book a trip to disney and then come back and tell what you think. Oh no she says I would rather go camping in Wales - enough said

Am I the only one who gets these negative comments about age and disney.

some years ago a colleague was going to Disney with her grandchildren and asked me what I liked about the place......told her I could arrive at MK early morning and stay 'til midnight..which we did....had a long sit down lunch and rest. She then asked what in the world we found to do until midnight......she told me she loves to sunbathe and I told her to go to Spain instead........she went to Disney and when she got back she came straight over and said...."yes now I know what you do until midnight...and I can't wait to go back next year"......she's been every year since...more times than me in fact!!

people that havent been before just dont understand why we have to go to wdw. part of it i think is a kind of jealousy though, my dh firm think that we are loaded as we go try to go to wdw every year. and he gets the odd coment like "what your going there again"...
i havent had anything said to me by anyone in work, and i have a disney watch on disney key ring in work disney ariel topper and disney tinkerbell car sticker
your never too old to go to disney!!
ignore her stupid comments, send her here and she can camp in my garden, sure i can put the disney cds on and show her my disney collection of snow globes and ornaments=my disney shrine room!

i get this ALL the time.....in all sorts of ways......biting comments, subtle comments, you name it..

it doesn't bother me.....i and my family enjoy it....that's all that matters to me...

Yep, get it all the time! Lots of "you're going again??" type comments. I tell them to go and see for themselves - THEN they're allowed to have an opinion on Disney holidays!

its either "theres plenty of other places..."
"why disney isnt it for kids " to which I give a torrent of things that are for adults there

plus I have inspired two people to go on their first trip

I tend to get this more off my family than anyone else - most of my mates think it's great that we can go again and again and just wish they could too.

The best one ever, though, has to be when we told people we were going to WDW fo our honeymoon and one of my colleagues said 'Well, that's not exactly a romantic place for a honeymoon', then promptly went on his honeymoon to Ibiza

My son seems to be experiencing this a lot at the mo in school, other classmates keep asking why he keeps going back to the same place, I told him to put it down to jealousy, we only go ONCE a year, he usually has at least one other long haul and one med holiday as well!

When I worked for a holiday company I remember my boss saying that it would be awful to go to WDW for a honeymoon. I contemplated saying nothing but just had to say 'actually we had a great honeymoon in Orlando!'

My in-laws are mid 60s and are planning a trip in the next year or two - they are looking forward to going by themselves as the last 2 times they have taken DH's nephew and DH's Nan She didn't think she was too old at 80-something!

Sometimes from friends and sometimes from colleagues but it always the same.... why do you go there?

I would never try to convert people as my sister went to WDW and hated it and so did a friend of mine.

I love Disney and am obsessed by Disney but other people are obsessed by cars, arts, cricket, Eastenders, Caravans, etc and they could not convert me. Each to their own.

When I tell them I have a Disney timeshare (DVC) they really think I have lost it.

Colleagues at work have asked me what I could possibly find to do all day and I try to explain but their eyes glaze over.

Others have pity for me as I believe at first they think I go for my DD, but after speaking to me for more than five minutes they realise I have no other conversation but all things Disney related.

I really don't think anyone at my work is jelous of me, just concerned as they think I need help!!!

We get this all the time, mostly from DH's family. They live in Tampa and they're always peeved when we head to WDW instead of sitting around their house "visiting" . Just smile sweetly and tell her that you're just an overgrown kid, enjoying your second childhood.

Well I`m 46 and I love WDW it`s not that I`m a great Disney fan, in fact some Disney films I`ve never seen. However I do think the resorts and parks are fabulous and I`ve yet to find somewhere better for our holidays.
Some people can`t see the appeal though - their loss not mine!

Oh yeah, I don't get comments about age and Mickey, well not yet anyway, because we still have young kids but my wifes family really cannot understand why we love WDW so much. She seems to think that its something like large carnival and she really seems to struggle with the concept that the whole site is around about the same size as Glasgow. I've had comments from her like, "so you go to Disney for a day, a day at Universal, a day at Seaworld and a day at Busch Gardens....with all the sunbathing time you get why aren't you brown."

Each to their own but personally I used to grudge parting with money to go on holiday. The thought of going to a dirty smelly Spanish apartment, having diaorreah cause I took some ice in my drink, and doing nothing by a pool all day really didn't appeal to me in any way shape or form. It even stuck in my throat when we parted with over £5,000 for our "once in a lifetime" trip to Florida and I dreaded the whole experience. I loved it so much we've not only been back, we've been back and bought a DVC. Let them laugh at the idea of me wandering round MGM or Epcot with my zimmer frame - at least I'll be loving every minute.
