poll coming... but generally what is your preferred type of pet?

I guess I'm a dog person, but I like outside dogs. I really don't like any indoor pets - other than fish. Fish are fine. :) I really, really dislike indoor cats. I don't even like to go and visit our friends that have them. (Sorry, cat people. I'm just not a fan.)

I'm a dog person, but my kids are also lizard, frog, fish and bird people, so I coexist with those, too. But for me, there's nothing like a sweet little puppy (in fact, right now, I have two!)

dog person, closley followed by fish person

I am like GEM. My dogs are outside dogs, I love them to death but they are outside dogs, somewhat, their doghouse has heat and air :rotfl2:

I don't like cats. They frighten the dickens out of me :earseek: :earseek:

I can't vote. I am equally a cat and a dog person. I currently have one of each, and there is no way I could ever have a favorite.

I am not into birds, fish, or reptiles however. I like pets I can snuggle up with.

Cats frighten you?! Why, they're so small! But I guess that it's like people being afraid of birds. They're small too but I've known two people who are deathly afraid of them.

I love ALL animals and would have them all if I could. My favorites are cats though both domesticated and in the wild. I prefer them to be in and outers but that's difficult in the city.

No, they terrify me :rotfl2:

My MIL, she has these two cats, and all they do is stare at me :earseek: :confused3 I just know they are talking bad about me. :earseek:

Knowing cats, you could very well be right. :teeth:

I'm not afraid of them, really. I just don't like them. Plus, I always get the feeling that if they were bigger, or we were smaller, they'd happily eat us. :rotfl:

None! The last thing I want is a pet. I absolutely hate going into houses with pets, especially ones that smell and shed everywhere. DIS-gusting if you ask me.

I love dogs, but prefer cats for their easier "upkeep". Discovered bengal cats last year and found the best of both worlds. High energy, interactive, follow you around like a dog, incredibly sociable - ours never met a stranger they didn't like.

One of the rare moments they aren't stampeding through the house, opening doors or leaping onto your shoulder from a 6 ft. bookcase:

ETA: and they shed very little!

Oops! I should have specified that I meant Michie in my other post. However, knowing cats you TOO may just be right. ;)

Oh I'm sure they would :rotfl:

I wish we could vote for two pets because I love my Minkydog AND I so enjoy our gerbils. I never thought I would like rodents so much but these creatures are just delightful (one just had babies so we are surrounded by so much fluff and peeping--they are adorable!)

Same here! I was attacked by a cat as a child and it took me a long time to get over it. I got a cat for the kids back in 99 and I have become fond of her, plus she has helped me get over the fear -- just not entirely.

Are they both Bengals? I love the coloring on that gray one.

I voted that I was a dog person because I've adored dogs since I was small. That's changing now, though, as I'm turning into a bird person! I started becoming obsessed with birds over the past few years and finally got my own cockatiel last Christmas (a gift from DH  ). I decided when the dog and cat are "gone" I'll get myself a larger bird -- maybe an African gray or some sort of Amazon. So maybe that makes me more of a bird person, then, since I'm not thinking of getting a new dog?
