If you are...brace yourself for when he gets to school. He will be on of MANY Aidan's (Aiden's) I am sure.

Ever since my sister named her little guy Aidan, I am noticing the name more and more with baby's born the past couple of years. My oldest is 9, and I have not seen the name Aidan among any of his or my DD's (7) classmates in all these years. Or even my 5yo (K).

Just an observation. I went to school with an Aiden 25 years ago.. He was the only one I ever knew, now I see the name all over.

Not only Aidan's but the rhymes as well - Jadyn, Kaden/Caden are also big. I used to do daycare and I must've gotten 15 calls within the last year all for kids with those names. Weird.

My DS#2 is named Hayden and we get people asking us all the time if his name is Aiden. BTW, he is almost 4.

I noticed this trend, too! Aidens are everywhere! I seen a few in my church nursery. On my high school alumni site where we talk about what we been up to, many classmates had sons named Aiden. I work at a library and been seeing many young Aidens coming through. It's just like the name "Connor" - a few years ago, Connor was the "new" name that was EVERYWHERE around here. Madison is the equivalent female "new" name that has been super popular and hugely used in recent years. These names just really appeal to new parents, I guess!

LOVE the name Aiden, really considered it for Noah. But it was just too popular and didn't really go with his middle name (a family name). It's a good thing I didn't pick it, my cousin and his wife had a baby boy 2 weeks after Noah was born and named him Aidan!

I personally know four Aiden/Aidans under the age of 4. Two are girls.
It's a cute name but definitely a popular one right now!

The popularity of it really makes me mad! When I picked that name out 4-1/2 years ago, I thought I was trying to pick a less common name, little did I know...

I think the popularity of it started with the character Aidan on Sex and the City.

I named my first son Conor, because I thought it would be different. Two years later I'm hearing "Conor" everywhere! So when I had my second son, who is now eight, I chose Aidan for his name. I had only know of *one* Aidan before that. Then I started seeing on TV (Sex & the City) and figured it was all over. . .we'd be innundated with Aidan's, and I was right! Ah, well. . .

That's the first time I ever heard the name. And I haven't stopped hearing it since. :rotfl: Aidensmom, sorry it's becoming too popular for your liking. My 1yo son's name is Quinn and now I keep seeing pop up as a girls name.

My DH and I fought the whole time I was pregnant saying we wanted something different but couldn't agree on anything. Well HE wouldn't agree on anything, so we ended up with Jake! JAKE, don't get me wrong, I love the name, but it's only THE most popular name for the last 3 years! :earseek: Go figure! Next one I'm naming on my own, I'll just ban him and blame it on hormones! :rotfl:

my dd who is 20 is named Devon. While she was growing up she rarely saw another Devon. Now she complains, mom there are so many Devon's. Alot of them are around 10yo or so I think. She says just when I was getting to love having an original name it's not original any more.

Well it's not Aidan but still bizarro.....Ten years ago we named our son Cade. Never saw the name around back then now you see Cade's everywhere. The weird thing is that he has a rare syndrome and another kid with the same rare syndrome is named Cade too.
What's the chance of that?

Yep, got a nephew named Aidan who will turn 3 next year.

I tried to name my daughter something that not to many other kids were named but something that was not some off the wall name....so I named her Kassandra and call her Kasey...there is one other Kasey in her school but that kid will be going to Jr. high next year so she will be the only one then.
Kasey has Andrew F and Andrew G in her class...we see Andrew in the mall and she yells "hi andrew F"...that is how they are both called in and out of school....but even worse are the two kevins....one is Kevin C and the other is either Kevin the Cryer (he cried the first 2 months of kindergarten last year) or polish Kevin since he speaks polish. The other 2 in her class are Big Alexis (she is a chunky kid) and little Alexis since she is small and thin....and this is how all the children call them to keep them seperate....I didn't want my daughter to be stuck with being called Kasey M. her whole school years...
There are 2 Aidans in my daughters grade and she had 2 in her preschool too....

Aidan was one of the contenders for naming son #2. My stipulation was that the name had to be Irish and could not be listed on the social security top one hundred names list. Aidan scored on both counts. I think I had 8 names to choose from-poor DH.

However, son got named Kevin. It was number 33 that year. Darn it, his name fits him so well-he could not be an Aidan.

I think I got sensitized to the name thing in first grade. My poor teacher:
5 Michaels
2 Richards
Stephen and Steven
2 Christines
2 Suzannes
2 Jennifers
2 Marjories
2 Johns
and a couple of others I have since forgotten. Only three kids were not duplicate names that year!

There's an Aidan in the other 3rd grade at my school. I have his idential twin Liam. Haven't seen too many Devon's. My Kevin is one of only 2 in the whole school of 700. My Rhett is always the only Rhett! Go for that is you want unique! It's Welsh for enthusiastic and my Rhett certainly is!

My cousin has a newborn named Aidan, I didn't realize it was so popular. I know someone who has a little boy about a year old named Caden.
