I voted yes as a BWV owner for one reason only.....it should make the check-in desk CM's jobs much easier and cut down on the whining and gnashing of teeth that they have to listen to EVERY DAY!!! So mine was a vote on behalf of the BWV front desk staff! :)

I can honestly say that if they had instituted a similar rule at a DVC resort that I didn't own, it wouldn't bother me. Views don't make or break my WDW trips. But I respect those who put a very high premium on what type of view they get.

I voted "Yes as an Owner". It really doesn't make a difference to me. I usually request Standard Views.

But there are times when I bring guests, like this past trip. I had requested a BW view and I was fortunate enough to get a great view. But now with the choices it should make things a little earier at check-in. Hopefully less disappointments and less stress placed on the CM's at the front when members don't get what they requested.

So when a baby whines you think the solution is to give him what he wants?

I think Dr Spock would disagree.

I voted 'yes as a BWV owner', although I own at other resorts also.
I do think, however, it would have been better to have adjusted the points to a three tier schedule with boardwalk view being more points than water view.
Also, if they can make 'boardwalk view' a guarantee when making reservations, why can't they make smoking/non-smoking a guarantee also?

I voted yes as a non-owner. I hope that it carries over to all of the DVC resorts that the owners get first preference if they're able to make their reservations well in advance.

It's become frustrating not to get what you requested 11 months ago because you weren't able to check-in early.:(

Well, Rich, it depends on the whiners.

Under the system of a year ago, requests were assigned by a room assigner based on when you called in. But if you showed up early and whined enough, you could get the room you were looking for, taking it from someone who had it assigned who didn't fly in until 4:00. Don't approve.

Under the system of two months ago, show up early and get a room assigned. But those who booked earlier than last Spring booked under the whole room assignment system, so they'd show up late and whine. Don't approve, but I have some more sympathy.

Under the new system, there will still be some whiners, but the front desk can simply tell them its a room type. Few people book a one bedroom and then whine when they don't get a GV. People who booked in the last several months and were told they might get a BW view by showing up early (like married@) had the rug pulled from under them and their whining is more understandable, but because the "first come first served" 'policy' was only in effect at BWV for a few months, there should be relatively few of those people - who hopefully will get the message and adjust before they show up at the front desk.

This isn't whining and getting what you want. This is keeping the whining from occuring at the levels it was at the front desk (both from the "we booked 11 months out and should get our view" crowd and the "but its seven am, we will wait for a BW view room to open if someone will vacate one today" crowd), where it can affect the vacation of other guests as well as the morale of the front desk staff.

Its about managing expectations - something Disney used to do quite well and hasn't done so well in the past several years. Expect a forty minute wait for Splash and get on in 30 and you are thrilled. Expect a 20 minute wait and get on in 30 and you are disappointed. Don't expect a "towel animal" and you are thrilled. Expect one and one doesn't appear in your room and you are disappointed. Expect a BW View and get it, and you are happy - but not thrilled - you simply had your expectations met (and nearly everyone not booking SV was expecting it), leaving the remaining 60% of guests in PV rooms disappointed. This keeps the 20% who get the view happy, and prevents on site disappointment of the 60% who showed up with the expectation.

Rich...not sure if this was a joke or you were making a point, but I have never been in favor of the "squeaky wheel" getting favorable treatment in any aspect of life. I tend to let things go (much to DW's dismay) unless it's really important or unless someone has violated a contract.

As I stated before, I wouldn't have a problem if they instituted this at all DVC resorts.

But be careful what you wish for....I haven't been able to make a BWV reservation for two days now because "the computer is a little messed up".

I voted yes.

We added on at BWV so that we could get standard view at 11 months.

We are in the minority, but we NEVER request anything besides non-smoking. Part of the fun and excitement is seeing what our view is.

We have been to WDW 10 times and stayed at several resorts. The only room I didn't like was at AKL. We can always find something we like about our room location:D

Yes as a BWV owner

And I do think a similar system should be instituted at all the DVC resorts where they can.

They already have at BCV with the 2br/2queen 2br/couch-queen configurations.

Not to stray too far from the topic, but are the BCV "2br/2queen 2br/couch-queen" configurations actually guaranteed at the time of reservation, or is it just a request like dedicated/lock-off?

I have read that it's a room category and on the ressie but I"m sure someone who has had one can confirm.

I thought it was like the ressie I now have at OKW with a 2br dedicated. They said I will have a 2br dedicated and when I added on a day, they made sure that it was also dedicated or I would have had to move. It think that BWV is the just first view category.

I voted yes as an owner, and I too, would like to see those of us who book 11 months out at any resort, get our prefernces honored first.

But in the whole grand scheme of things, we are just happy to be in a 2 bedroom villa, onsite.

An owner voting yes.

I would probably never book a preferred at BWV based on the "old" system... too "iffy". Pay the extra pts in hopes of BW... and you get the infamous kid-spitting clown. Or a suspect view of TOT but mostly just parking lot... there was too much variation in the "preferred" status.

I might actualy be willing to try a pref. view now that BW view is a category, esp. if I were bringing guests to impress. At least with that category, you know pretty much what you'll be looking at.

BUT.... if I had my choice of a new room category, it would have nothing to do with view.... I'd vote for smoking / non-smoking / smoking optional categories in a heartbeat. Beyond that I might not even make a request at all! :)

The BVC category for bedding configuration is a guaranteed and appears on the reservation. Made my ressie yesterday.

I think it is good for the owners, but alot of them will be disappointed also when they find they can never get what they want because it will still be early bird gets the worm as far as booking is concerned. I think they should make it like magical wishes, where you get so many and once you have used them up that's it.

Personally I don't see how they could derive this conclusion out of a survey and not address smoking/nonsmoking rooms! Since when is a view more important than a smoking designation?
