CLEVELAND — Is your last name Green or Greene? If so, Frontier Airlines is giving you the chance to fly for free this month.

The promotion is part of Frontier’s Green Week initiative in which the company is actively pursuing to become America’s greenest airline.

To claim their free flight, eligible individuals must book flights on flyfrontier.com and confirm their last name is Green or Greene.

Those eligible for the promotion will then receive a full refund of up to $400 for round trip flights if both segments of travel are purchased on one passenger name record.

The first flight must depart between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 on August 13, 2019 and the return flight must arrive by 11:59 on August 20, 2019.

Refunds will be awarded to the original booking contact person on September 15, 2019.

The promotion is only applicable for those with the last name of Green or Greene. Their immediate families, including spouses, parents, children and siblings are not eligible for the promotion if their last name is not Green or Greene.

This is so weird... I wonder if they have thought through that this is effectively a discount that is for the most part only available to white people of anglo saxon origin. Would be more fun/inclusive if they did some minor discount (e.g., free drink coupon or $10 off a carryon or checked bag) if you wear all green clothes on the flight.

I would think that the majority of white anglo-saxons are probably excluded as well. Green(e) is popular, but not, like, 51% popular.

This is an odd promotion. I wonder if they would honor people whose last name is "Green" but in another language. "Verde", "Midori", etc.

It's a just quirky promotion, like giving discounts to everyone named Patrick or Paddy on St. Patricks Day etc. Or everyone who is a natural redhead or has a third nipple.

According to Wikipedia the census of 2000 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_common_surnames_in_North_America
Green was on #37, about 410K people, about 59% was white, 36% was black and the remainder was Asian, Native, Multiracial or Hispanic.

Yeah, but to @MomOTwins’ point, that Frontier thing is pretty substantial. It’s not, like, 10% off your entree at TGI Friday’s.

Setting aside the issues of race and ethnicity, I think most folks will feel “left out” of that $400 promotion.

Or rejoice that they do not have to deal with Frontier. Lol.

I think a lot of people will shrug and guess 'better luck next time', or if they have a very unusual or a very common last name like "Smith", they will probably think 'My name never comes up with these things.
I took a look at the other T&Cs, and it's only on the 13th of August, on non stop domestic flights. Latest return is on the 20th. You can't get the flight free in advance, you have to pay for it, and then get it reimbursed. And it has to be booked via their website, everyone who booked via a third party website is already excluded.
So it will be more likely people who will benefit from this promotion are people who have already booked, or those few who are on flexible jobs (/retired etc) who can say 'let's do this'.

I need to start watching for Paddy discounts, few people understand that is my name when I give it to them.
