Are you giving up anything for Lent?

If so what?

Butter would be a real sacrifice for me. I love butter.

Several people in New Orleans have told me that they are not giving up anything this year for Lent as the past six months have been so awful.

smoking, drinking, fighting, and miniskirts.

Well 5 months into a deployment so there is one obvious thing I'm giving up for quite a while :rotfl: I'm actually giving up soda for Lent. I wanted to do chocolate or sweets but then it again circles back to the deployment and how awful I would be to live with, lol. :cool1:

One can give something up or do something for lent. I have done both but found the doing something more rewarding.

Yep, doing something was always stressed when I was growing up. This year, however, I'm giving up something...going with candy (including chocolate). its been a long, cold winter and I have a terrible sweet tooth so this will be tough.

I gave up something for Lent a few years back. My denomination doesn't stress Lent. It was an eye opener for me.

I'll be giving up chocolate (except for my coffee). This will be a sacrifice for me (crazy as that sounds). I am hoping the sacrifice will again turn my focus to God and what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross. I was amazed last time.

I am giving up giving something up for lent. Just to save myself (and God) the disappointment when I cheat on it b/c I have ZERO will power. :teeth:

Our priest has always suggested it's better to actually "do" something, like go to an extra mass per week. This year I'm giving up fried foods and I will go to mass twice a week.

It's too late to "give up" the Dis! :rotfl: One year, I was doing too many computer games and gave them up for lent, I never went back to them, but I did find the Dis. Oh well.

I will give up candy, and I will try to go to church for a weekday mass each week. I need to think about this some more.

Bobbi :)

Do you think you can handle all that change? Maybe you should just pick one. :confused3

I'm drinking 6-8 bottles of water a day and exercising. I know, I should be doing it anyway, but they say if you do something for a while it becomes a habit. I'm hoping sticking to this during Lent may help me start towards a new healthier lifestyle.

I gave up beer and popcorn.

agnes!
