I just had to share that I thought I could sniff out anything, but I had no idea my husband and friends were concocting a surprise party for me yesterday!!

This has been truly one of my favorite birthdays ever. My husband had already planned to take me to Mortons last night for dinner (he had a $100 Amex rewards gift certificate - which by the way doesn't get too much at Mortons) and we were thinking of doing a movie after. My mother in law was going to pick up the children about an hour after we left for the evening. My oldest is 12, but we didn't want them home alone late at night. So she calls around 3 to tell me that she's running errands and will be by at 6, but if we didn't mind feeding the children since she will be out and about. No problem.

We leave at 5:30 for an early reservation and I remember I was supposed to help with Youth dinner at my church tonight but wasn't sure what I needed to do, so I call my friend, Trish, who is also helping. She tells me Happy Birthday and asks if we're doing anything special. I tell her that we're on our way to dinner and might do a movie after. "Oh, Mortons - that's expensive. Good for you" she tells me. She says to stop by before going to the movie because she has something for me. OK - I tell her we're not even sure about the movie, but we'll stop by.

So we enjoy this absolutely magnificent dinner at Mortons. By the way - I've done Ruths Chris and now Morton's - Morton's wins!! Best steak I've ever had in my life. Impeccable service and awesome waiter who was engaging, but not intrusive. Anyway, I digress. Back to the great dinner. My husband even let me order the souffle for dessert (knowing he has this huge cake waiting).

We leave dinner very satisfied. I almost insisted we stick around downtown and stroll around the Riverwalk because it was such a pleasant evening. I would have loved to see him get out of that one.

We head back towards home and I remind my husband that we need to stop by my friends house. I told him that Trish always does movie passes for birthday gifts and she probably is insistant that we stop by before heading out to the movie so we can use the passes.

We stop by her house and I ring the doorbell. I swear in my head I was thinking to myself that I was going to tell her when she answered "OK - where's my surprise party". After I ring the bell, the door slowly opens and no one is there - I walk in. Of course - there's all my kids and my best friends in whole world yelling "SURPRISE!!!"

I can't believe I didn't get a whiff of any of this. Not even my kids spilled it. The biggest surprise was how cool my husband played this. This is the man who cannot wait for Christmas to give me my present.

I am a truly blessed person and last night showed me just how!

So, I want to hear other stories of ultimate surprises that caught you off guard.

My family gave me a surprise party last year, but I figured it out. :confused3 I knew they were planning it because they said they would clean the house and that I didn't have to cook that day either. That never happens.

Glad your family was able to surprise you. :bday:

Happy Birthday--

Mine was my sweet 16

My boyfriend at the time and i went to different high schools and would mostly hang out on the weekends...So i went to his house one Saturday and was watching movies when my dad called and said he had to pick me up because we had to go get our passport photos done--so i didnt think anything of it and asked if jeff could come with us and then we would watch a movie..so he said okay and he came and picked me up..
Dad was driving and when we got to my house, he backed into the driveway (as he always does) but did it really quick so icouldnt see the cars that were in my driveway (aunts, uncles, my boyfriends parents, etc.) When i looked up, i saw a huge bonfire type of thing and heard my best friend yelling happy birthday! It was a backyard thing with all my friends and family, my dads friend doing DJing..it was a great night! and i cant believe my boyfriend didnt tell me because we had always talked about how neither of us ever had a surprise party

My dh did one for me last month. I was shocked! The house was trashed when I left in the morning to take the kids skiing. When we got home at 4:30 the house was spotless. I walk in and he and the neighbor were blowing up balloons. I had just enough time to shower and dress! He even went to one of my favorite places for the food (which he's never wanted to get food from in 10 years).

I was so surprised! He was doing some strange things the week before but it never occured to me that he was planning a party! I knew we were going to dinner that night but that was it. It was the best birthday ever. The poor neighbors though. Dh set the bar so high that the guys in the neighborhood don't know how they are going to match him. :)

I have never ad a surprise party. I hoped for one for my 50th and hinted a few years before but I was going through chemo for my 50th so I thought they would do somethig for my 51st since I survived my 50th. BUt noooooo!
When my sister who lived in WinterHaven at the time turned 50 I planned a surprise party for her.
I invited all the family down to Orlando including my father who refused to get on an airplane since "The War".
I told her I was going to a pin event and my friends and I were having dinner at Boma, her favorite restaraunt. I invited her to come along because she knew alot of my pin friends. The dummy never even thought about it being her birthday.
We were all sitting in the lobby, everyone had their backs to her except me. I was standing up watching for her. As she came to the area I told her to say hello to my pin friends. She looked at them and saw her 3 boys, my 3 boys, my brother, her SIL and neice and then my dad. She started blubbering and didn't stop the entire meal.
We had such a great few days after with my dad at WDW. He had never been and when mom was alive he and she didn't want to go. From then until is death in 2004 he went with me at least twice a year.
I still "joke" with my sister about the great surprise party she had for her 50th and the terrible 50th birthday I had. And now I keep saying "You had such a great surprise party and I had none". You think the dummy would get the hint. Peggie
