Are you charged for one night as soon as you make a reservation?

Is a deposit charged to your credit card as soon as a reservation is made? Is there anyway to prepay your entire stay so that you don't have to deal with it while you are there? :confused3

When I make my reservations online, I'm not even charged a deposit at all for some reason. :confused3 When I make them over the phone, I am charged one night pretty timely.

Sorry, I have never tried to pre-pay my stay, so I can't help you there. Perhaps someone else can?

:wave2: We made our reservations through AAA online back in november for this June's trip. They have never charged a dollar to my card. I went over to the AAA office the other day for something else and asked if I could pay my reservation in full. They told me that the bill would have to be settled at checkout and that the credit card was only to hold the reservation. They even called Universal to ask them and they said the same thing.

i noticed some rooms say deposit 14 days after booking some say 5 days prior to arrival some say day of booking some say day of arrival. :confused3 :confused3

We had a $200 deposit charged for our stay in June, and we were told the balance was due in May, so obviously we are prepaying for our HRH stay.

Been so long, I can't remember how I booked, altho it was probably online. I was never charged anything and even called a few weeks ago to confirm our ressie. They had everything correct...even the tower and view I requested! (I'd forgotten about that!) I doubt you'll be able to prepay your bill because most room keys are "charge cards" and you can charge meals and merchandise back to your room so you have the convenience of one bill. I'm guessing that may be why you can't "prepay" your room?? :confused3 But, hey, what do I know....

What is Universal's cancellation policy?? I want to book 2 rooms now for Christmas, but I'm not sure the exact dates and if we will really need two rooms.

Here's what is listed on Universal's Website :

Deposits & Cancellation Policy
Deposit Requirements
Equal to one night’s room and tax.
For reservations made 28 days or more in advance, the deposit is due in 14 days.
For reservations made 14-27 days in advance, the deposit is due 14 days before the date of arrival.
For reservations made 0-13 days before arrival, the deposit is due at time of booking.

Cancellation Policy
The cancellation policy for Central Reservations will be one night’s room and tax if reservation is canceled within 5 days of arrival.
** Special Restrictions may apply during holidays and special events
Deposits are generally applied to the last night of a guest’s stay unless otherwise noted. Upon arrival at the hotel, the guest will confirm their departure date.

PLEASE NOTE: Deposits are forfeited if guest checks out of the hotel prior to the check-out date.

I just changed a room-only reservation from the RPH to the HRH and was told that my credit card would be credited for the original RPH reservation and charged for the new HRH reservation.

I think I was told that I had to cancel by June 6 for my scheduled arrival date of June 19 (14 days?). Either this is a special restriction case or I wrote down June 6 for some other reason; my sticky note was a little jumbled. :confused3

Policy is different depending on how you book. Universal Vacations has a stricter cancel policy. Room only reservations booked through Loews or Universal has a 5 day prior to arrival no fee penalty.
