Are you busy "all day" at work?

There is alot of "down time" in my job. ALOT OF DOWN TIME! I ask my bosses for more work on a regular basis but in general I only have about 20 hours of work in a 40 hour week. This involves lots of time killing and clock watching at the office. This at one of the top companies in America!

Does this ever happen to you- not enough work to keep you busy?? How do you cope? How do you look busy so someone does not think you should be laid off? Again, how should I tell people I do not have enough work to do without promoting myself for a lay off?

I sleep with the boss - every night - so that's not an issue for me.....

I am a driver, so I can dissapear. I also live 2 blocks from my job, so I go home and throw in laundry and check email.I carry a cell phone so when my people ned to be picked up I have it with me and just leave from wherever I am.

Most of the time my bosses are to busy to know what I am up to.

Let me add ..I only am scheduled in about 12 hours a week.

I am not the type to take advantage though, most of the time I ask them for stuff to do.

Yes, I have a lot of downtime too. Other times, I'm running around like an idiot. When I'm really bored, I DIS. I keep hoping I don't get fired for it!

My job can go from running around like crazy and feeling so swamped you feel like you are drowning to very light... right now I am waiting on a database to be fixed so I can get real work done The good thing though is that everyone else is very much like me. So there are times when people have "downtime" and just relax a little. If I were you though, I'd just keep asking for more work. I never go more than a day or two w/o finding something to keep me busy at least 80% of the day.

I wish! I teach 6 hours a day and have one plan period. Right now I'm here and shouldn't be, not b/c my bosses wouldn't like it, but b/c I have TONS of things I need to get done. But we all need breaks, and coming here helps me relax for 5 minutes before I go back to the grind.
