Are you an organ donor?

I lost my dad while he was waiting for a heart transplant.

Ive told my story here many times but yes, Im an organ donor as is everone in my family.

I had my life saved 16 months ago, from Organ Donation! I was given 3 to 6 months to live without a Pancreas Alone Transplant. I was very blessed and recieved my Pancreas Transplant within two weeks of getting on UNOS National Waiting List.

Please don't take your Organs to Heaven, Heaven knows we need them here!

Yes! I won't be needing them anymore, so I hope someone else is able to.

I'm also a regular blood donor. Blood donations kept my mom alive longer than she otherwise would have, so I'm trying to pay it forward!

Yes, as is my husband and just about everyone else I know.

Yes, my DH and I are organ donors and have discussed that we would donate the organs of either of our children, if something dreadful should ever happen.

We would certainly wish that someone out there would be willing to donate theirs or their child's organs to save the life of one of our family members.

Yes, and my family knows my wishes. My mom is signed up to be an organ donor too

Oh, no! Just now read the story. How awful, especially since it arrived just hours too late. Was there no way to artificially perform the liver's function for him for that short time? (Sorry, not up on what function the liver serves.)

:sad2:

I am!

my bumpersticker reads:

Dont take your organs to heaven, heaven knows we need them here!

I have my card in my wallet. I've told DH that I'd like to donate and he says he won't let them chop me up like a piece of meat. I told him to *bleep* with it..if I'm dead, I'm not need my parts anymore anyway! Let somebody else who CAN use them have them.

I am and I donate blood as well. My feelings are why wouldn't you?

I am in the bone marrow registry, but I'm not an organ donor. I just haven't been able to take the plunge. DBF worked in an ER and is in med school- too many stories :worried:

I am registered as an organ donor, but was rejected by the bone marrow registry because I once had cancer.

I wondered the same thing. I don't know much liver function either.

In the past I have donated blood. But now they are not so sure they want it. I had a hepatitis a few years ago and there is some debate on weather or not they can use my blood. Ive been told yes by recruiters, then turned away at the centers.

I am in the bone marrow registry though. Least I can do to help out. They may never need me, but Im there when someone does.

My family knows my wishes as far as my organs go and my wishes for where they can send things. Any organ that can be harvested and used I told them they can allow. But it all has to be for medical use or for teaching. I also told them I want my skin to go to Grossman Burn Centers....not to be used for cosmetic purposes. They can even cut my hair and donate that as well. I wont have any use for these things if I am gone.

I do not have it indicated on my drivers license though. I worked in a trauma center and have seen instances where organs were taken swifter than they might have been otherwise. I just dont want to get an over zealous doc in there. But my family knows that if there is nothing that can be done medically for me, they can donate what they wish.
